Two vehicle accidents in Daviess County during the Memorial Day weekend resulted in moderate injuries to a Pattonsburg man and minor injuries to three Pattonsburg teens.

Carl L. Allen, 57, of Pattonsburg was taken by Daviess County Ambulance to Cameron Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries following a one-vehicle accident on May 28.

According to the Highway Patrol report, he accident occurred at 11 p.m. on Rt. Z, two miles west of old Pattonsburg, as Allen was westbound driving a 1978 Dodge van. He ran off the north side of Rt. Z and slid down an embankment. The van overturned twice and struck two small trees, coming to rest on its wheels. Mr. Allen was not wearing a seat belt.

A one-vehicle accident on May 27 resulted in minor injuries to the driver and two passengers. The accident occurred at 10:30 p.m. on July Road, 4 miles west of Jameson. Bradley J. Nalle, 17, of Pattonsburg was westbound on July Road driving a 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The Patrol report states that upon entering a curve in the road, Nalle observed a pickup parked on the side of the road. He braked to avoid the parked truck, skidded sideways into the truck, continued across the road and struck another pickup parked on the south side of the road.

Nalle refused treatment but his passengers, 18-year-old Eric Giles and 17-year-old Matt Maize, both of Pattonsburg, were taken to Cameron Hospital by private vehicle, treated and released. None of the three was wearing a seat belt.

Both accidents were investigated by Trooper Anthony C. Piercy.

Statewide, traffic fatalities were down over the Memorial Day holiday weekend this year compared to 1999. In 1999, nine people lost their lives during the three-day weekend. This year, seven people were killed in traffic crashes on Missouri’s roadways from 6 p.m. Friday, May 26, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 29. The Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated 368 crashes resulting in 211 injuries and the seven fatalities. During the same counting period, 172 persons were arrested for driving while intoxicated.
