Some wonderful new books are at the Daviess County Library as memorial gifts. Two books are in memory of Charles F. Belshe, who was a leader in our farming community and believed in furthering the education of children and advancing agricultural.
‘Your Calf’ is a child’s guide to raising and showing beef and dairy calves. This young adult book explains how to select a calf, how to feed it, ways to keep the calf healthy, what to do if the calf is sick or hurt, and where and how to show the calf. ‘Making Your Small Farm Profitable’ tells how to plan for optimal farm efficiency, determine equipment requirements and costs, sell your products a dozen different ways, and exploits lucrative niche markets that others overlook. Both of these books were placed in the library by Lana and Larry Belshe and family.
In memory of Joe Froman, another leader among the agricultural community, are two children’s books given by Ann and Gene Schweizer. ‘Grandpa Was a Cowboy’ by Silky Sullivan is about a child who is mesmerized by Grandpa’s tales of the past and his escapades as a cowboy, photographer, and farmer. ‘Finding Grandpa Everywhere’ tells how a young boy finds that after Grandpa dies, memories of him and his love live on everywhere he looks. This book also includes a discussion of the importance of allowing children to understand death and undergo the process of grieving. All of these new books are on display at the library now and ready for reading.
