The Missouri Arts Council recently allocated $1,000 to Green Hills Rural Development, Inc. for Fiscal Year 2000.

The funds will be used to support storytelling programs in state and city parks throughout the Green Hills region. Green Hills Rural Development, Inc. will utilize the storytelling expertise of local storytellers, Richard and Donna Ashenfelter. The Ashenfelters will present stories centered around nature and the culture of the region.

The Missouri Arts Council is the second oldest state funded arts agency in the country, providing technical and financial assistance to Missouri artists and arts organizations. The Council was established in 1965 to encourage and stimulate the growth, development and appreciation of the arts in Missouri. It provides financial assistance for up to 50 percent of certain arts projects and is a division of the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

The Council’s board consists of 15 arts leaders from across the state, appointed by the Governor for five year terms, who meet three times a year to set policy and programmatic direction for the Missouri Arts Council.
