GHS relay victories highlight 2nd and 4th place team finishes

Gallatin’s boys 4×400-meter relay team held off Stanberry and South Harrison to win the Gladstone Memorial traveling trophy and the GHS girls 4×800-meter relay team set a new Grand River Conference record with their best effort of the season during last Tuesday’s Grand River Conference Meet held at Graceland College in Lamoni, Ia.

The Lady Bulldog quartet of Kayli Burrell, Rochelle Davitt, Roxi Davitt and Allison Spidle combined for a 10:22.90 finish in the 4×800-meter relay and beat runnerup Stanberry by over 3 seconds. Gallatin’s GRC record time was over 23 seconds better than the 1st place time from a year ago.

Adam Whitney, Robert Heldenbrand, Nathan Henderson and Quentin Carroll combined to snatch the 4×400-meter relay race away from Stanberry by nearly a full second. Gallatin’s time of 3:34.83 was just over 3 seconds off the conference record time of 3:31.39 set last year by Worth County.

Both Gallatin squads improved dramatically on their team finishes from last year. The Bulldogs piled up 85 points and finished 4th compared to 68 points and a 6th place finish a year ago. The Lady Bulldogs notched 97 points to place 2nd, compared to 49 points and an 8th place finish last season at conference.

Kayli Burrell and Allison Spidle each won their specialty races. Phillip Sauls won the distance hurdles for the Bulldogs.
