In addition to competing for the team title, all 5 Bulldogs will try to win the title of state medalist.
Gallatin’s 5 all-Grand River Conference golfers added new titles to their names after the Bulldogs claimed their 3rd straight Class 1A, District 7 golf title last Friday at Plattsburg Country Club. Powered by a 1-2-3 finish in the district medalist race, plus 2 other individuals in the top 10, the Bulldogs beat the host Tiger squad by a whopping 44 strokes.
Gallatin’s team score of 310 topped their own district winning score of 315 a year ago. Plattsburg came in a distant 2nd with a score of 354, followed by St. Mary’s 359, Maysville 368, Hamilton 397, Pattonsburg 403, Drexel 480 and Osborn 519.
The MSHSAA Golf Championships will be held next Monday and Tuesday in Columbia. In addition to competing for the team title, all 5 Bulldogs will try to win the title of state medalist. Scott Crose shot a 74 at district to claim the medalist award, and was followed closely in the hunt by teammates Jake Humphrey, who carded a 76, and Chad Sullenger, who registered a 78. Brice Garnett finished 6th in individual play with an 82. Joey Evans placed 8th with an 84.
Pattonsburg’s Tony Pelletier earned a trip to the state tournament, shooting a district round of 81 for 5th place in the individual standings.
The Bulldogs will play a total of 36 holes in the state tournament, 18 each day. The 4 best scores recorded by a team each day will be counted in determining final team scores. Tournament play will begin at Columbia Country Club at 9 a.m. each day.
Medals will be presented, at the state meet, to the top 15 players. Head coaches of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams and the 5 team members of each of the top 4 teams will be awarded a medal. Trophies will also be awarded to the schools placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the state meet.
