Christina Hughes has opened a new daycare center in Gallatin. The Kid Corral will be located in the building formerly housing Stacey Cameron’s Small Steps daycare.

Official transfer of the business will take place on May 1. Mrs. Hughes is working toward a gradual transition of ownership to make the change as smooth as possible for children and their parents. Stacey Cameron will stay on at The Kid Corral indefinitely.

Mrs. Hughes owns another daycare center by the same name in Holt which has been open since last summer. She plans to split her time between the two facilities. Her office will be located in the upstairs loft of the Gallatin center.

The Kid Corral will utilize a pre-school curriculum, including Bible school stories, letters, shapes and numbers. The center presently has summer openings for children.

Mrs. Hughes will be doing some cosmetic and repair work on the building. The day care center includes kitchen, bathroom and play space. The play area is complemented with individual locker storage space for each child. A pre-school classroom doubles as dining area and art room.

A front parlor serves as a baby nursery and toddler’s room. A separate room has been designated for two-year-olds as required by licensing regulations. A chain-link fence provides a 2,000-square-foot outdoor playground mostly in front of the building. Playground equipment includes a double slide, jungle gym, and sand box.

Mrs. Hughes expects to hire three full-time staff members and is currently seeking qualified applicants. The Center will be fully licensed by the State upon completion of several inspections.

Mrs. Hughes resides in Pattonsburg. She has three children, Nicole, 9; Shane, 6; and Jake, 4.

Normal business hours for The Kid Corral will be from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Stop by and visit with Mrs. Hughes at 208 West Grand, just across from McDonald Tea Room, or phone 663-3795.
