Gallatin’s Bulldogs continue to set the standard for area golf teams and individuals as they get ready for next Monday’s Grand River Conference Tournament at Stanberry. The Bulldogs beat Hamilton Tuesday afternoon in Hamilton but it was Monday’s showing that broke more home course records.
Senior Scott Crose blistered the 9-hole Daviess County Country Club course for a possible school-record 32, 3 shots under par, as the Bulldogs trounced Maysville and Pattonsburg in a runaway decision. Gallatin golfers combined for a team score of 143, one stroke better than the GHS record set earlier this season, and easily defeated the Wolverines (176) and Panthers (190) for the team title.
Brice Garnett claimed the runnerup position in the medalist race with a 36, Chad Sullenger finished tied for 3rd with a 37. Joey Evans added a 38. Jacob Humphrey contributed a 39 in varsity play.
Pattonsburg scores included: Tony Pelletier 37 (Tie-3rd), Aaron deJong 43, Wyatt Sperry 54 and Jeremy Gannan 56. Aaron Gayser paced the Wolverines with a 40.
Gallatin’s jayvee squad beat Maysville, 176 to 214, in a 2-team competition. Ryan Thompson carded a 38, followed closely by Neal Steward’s 39. Luke Leeper and Brant Conover added 48 and 51, respectively.
Brice Garnett played Hamilton’s difficult Lake View Golf Course to the tune of a one under par score of 34 to lead the Bulldogs to a 148 to 189 win over the Hornets on Tuesday. Humphrey shot an even par 35 for Gallatin. Evans finished with a 39. Sullenger and Crose each carded 40s.
The junior varsity Bulldogs easily defeated the Hornets, 191 to 238. Thompson led all GHS jayvees with a 41, followed by Steward 42, Leeper 50 and Matt Swofford 58.
Gallatin golfers travel to Stanberry on Friday for varsity and junior varsity dual competition. Stanberry is also the site of next Monday’s GRC meet.
