Contracts were offered to Trevor Ballard for vocational agriculture teacher and to Michael Williams for social studies teacher during the regular meeting of the North Daviess R-3 Board of Education held April 17, 2000, at Coffey.

IN other business during Monday’s meeting, the financial statement was presented by Pat Heaps. Bills were paid as presented.

Ms. Kirby reported a bus had been ordered and gave the final cost.

During a report on the HVAC project, Ms. Kirby reported that Griggs will be working on the units during Easter break. The board agreed to let bids for old pipes, radiators and the boiler.

The following were approved as presented: Career Ladder for 2000-2001; extra duty schedule; summer school payroll; and the 2000-2001 budget revision which was presented by Superintendent Julie Kirby.

The slate of graduates for the class of 2000 was accepted.

During administrative reports, Ms. Ford reported the Goals 2000 Grant has been completed. The Practical Parenting Partnership Training was in April, the grant will be for next year. She reported on Reading Recovery, a KCMO School District program to improve reading skills and the Missouri Reading Initiative. Bill Lewis has donated a picnic table to the elementary school.

Mr. Willhite reported on MAP and Stanford testing. Trenton Foods has donated computer equipment to the high school. He also expressed the need for textbook upgrades.

Ms. Kirby reported a MAP Test Training Workshop for teachers to be held on Aug. 7, 2000, with follow ups on Sept. 29, 2000, and Dec. 1, 2000, and proposed the following changes in the 2000-2001 calendar: make Aug. 7 a teacher inservice day instead of Aug. 21 and dismiss classes at 12:40 p.m. on Sept. 29 and Dec. 1. The calendar was amended as proposed.

Ms. Kirby presented the General Assurance Statement for Special Education with the board accepting it as presented.

The board discussed the fire escape and other fire safety equipment and procedures.

The board also discussed possible uses of the church building in Coffey and housing projects.

The board went into executive session.

The next regular meeting of the board was set for 7:30 on Monday, May 15, 2000, at Coffey.
