Plans to offer a summer school program were discussed during the regular meeting of the Gallatin R-5 Board of Education held Thursday, April 13, 2000. Summer school will be offered from May 30 to June 22 from 8-12 with a breakfast program included. Details will be finalized in following meetings.

The board received resignations from Sue Gillilan, Barbara Wilson and Wanda Batson. All are retiring. The board and administration wishes them well.

Bills in the amount of $181,033.00 were approved for payment. The ledger report was given with year to date expenditures.

Mr. Ruse gave a budget presentation for the new school year. The budget reflected a balance for the regular operating budget; however capital project improvements for the next ten years result in deficit spending estimated at $130,000.00.

During the salary presentation, the teacher’s base salary was increased by $500.00 bringing the base to $25,250.00. Classified personnel received a 3.5 percent raise.

During the superintendent’s report, Mr. Ruse went over Unicom construction progress thus far. The lighting project is well underway, all bulbs are being replaced with brighter, smaller, more efficient bulbs. Several cement pads are being poured at the elementary to serve as foundations for the air conditioners. The bulk of work will start when school is out.

Only two spare buses received minor citations during bus inspection.

MARE donated $1,000.00 from L. J. Heart Company for a scholarship fund for R-5 students, which is being applied for at this time.

Present at the June 22 meeting were board members Vance Hefley, Roy Pendleton, Bill Irby, Junior Burke, Stan Ellis and Danny Dixon. Also present were Marty Sweatman, Mike Burrell, Jim Ruse, and secretary Linda Swopes.
