Gallatin R-5 grad Amy Woodruff has completed her 2nd season as a University of Alaska/Fairbanks Lady Nanook basketball player. The Nanooks finished 13-13 overall and 7-11 (tied for 6th) in the tough Pacific West Conference. The highlight of the year was a convincing 68-54 win over Western Washington, the eventual Pac West champion and conference representative in the Division II national championship tournament. Western WA lost in the semifinal round of national champion to Northern Kentucky.

UAF’s 13-13 record was the 2nd .500 or better record for the Lady Nanooks in the last 2 years. Prior to last season the 91-92 season was the last winning campaign.

Amy completed the season as the Nanook’s 2nd leading scorer with 9.2 points per game, an increase over her 7.1 average a year ago. She connected on 41% of her field goals and was an 82% shooter from the free throw line. She also led the team in 3-point shot attempts. Amy was named to the University of Nebraska-Omaha 02TV All-Tournament Team. UAF defeated Missouri Western in the tournament but lost to tournament champion UN0. Amy’s high point total for the season was 22 points against Missouri Western.

The Lady Nanooks are coached by Jenny (Lin) Benson, former Winston Redbird all-stater and sister of Gallatin R-5 coach Rick Lin.
