Federal grants totaling nearly $14,000 to expand the use of the Internet in local schools have been announced.
Federal grants totaling nearly $14,000 to expand the use of the Internet in local schools have been announced. North Daviess R-3 has been awarded $9,600 and Gilman City $4,200 as part of a federal initiative to promote the benefits to both students and teachers of new technologies within classrooms and libraries.
This funding is administered by the Schools and Libraries Division of the Universal Service Administrative Company. This is a non-profit organization under the direction of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The announcement of this funding was made on April 14 by Congresswoman Pat Danner.
“As we are all aware, the Internet has exploded in recent years as an effective learning tool for children of all ages,” says Danner. “I am pleased that this funding will help to ensure that the children of Missouri are prepared for — and knowledgeable of — the technological advancements which are being created at such an astonishing rate outside of our nation’s classrooms.”
