Norma Griffin was sworn in as an East Ward Alderman and Shonna Morrison was sworn in as West Ward Alderman, following the April 4, 2000 election, during the regular meeting of the Gallatin Board of Aldermen held April 10 at City Hall.
Police Chief Jim Wycoff introduced Jeff Spencer as a full-time officer in the police department. Officer Spencer has served as a reserve officer for the City since last December. The department staff now includes three full-time officers, one reserve officer, and one vacant full-time position.
Chief Wycoff also reported that the informational surveys are being returned by residents at a fair rate. It is hoped that a good number will be returned to provide reliable data to the department.
The board approved pay estimate #2 (final) to Lawson Construction for the Business Park Infrastructure project with $10,200.00 of CDBG funds.
The board accepted a bid of $270.00 per mowing from Burl Walker for the mowing of City properties and a bid of $545.00 per mowing from Roy Hogan for the mowing of city cemeteries.
City Administrator Jason Helton presented an update on the revenue report.
The annual meeting for the Green Hills Regional Planning Commission will be April 13, 2000.
City Hall will be closed Thursday, May 18, 2000, so that the clerks can attend training sessions.
During comments by alderman, Norma Griffin asked that the streets around the square be swept by city crews this Spring.
Mr. Snidow encouraged that a street repair program be developed.
Mr. Barnes inquired about the status of a number of nuisance properties.
Mayor Davis stated that he has asked the City Administrator to explore and prepare financing options for a general street improvement program and report to the board at a future meeting.
Bills in the amount of $108,182.48 were approved for payment.
