Two adults arrested for property damage in cow-bashing incident.

Lawrence R. Bayless, 24, of Kansas City; John Tripp, 22, of Gallatin; and a juvenile were taken into custody April 5 following an April 4 incident. It was reported the three did property damage to three pickups belonging to Premium Standard Farms at the Industrial Park, stole one of the pickups, and drove to a farm north of town.

At the farm they allegedly drove in one gate, destroyed another gate, ran over two cows, killing one and crippling the other, and ran into several other cows. The cows were heavy with calves and some have lost their calves. The cattle are owned by Sharon Berten of Gallatin.

Bayless is charged with the class C felony of tampering in the first degree, the class D felony of property damage in the first degree, and 4 counts of the class B misdemeanor of property damage in the second degree. He is being held without bond in the Livingston County Jail.

Tripp is charged with the class C felony of tampering the first degree, for which he posted $25,000 bond, and 3 counts of the class B misdemeanor of property damage in the 2nd degree and one count of the class A misdemeanor of stealing, for which he posted $1,000 bond. The juvenile was turned over to the juvenile officer.

The sheriff’s department was assisted in the investigation by Highway Patrol Troopers Tyson Gardner and Paul Kimball.

Eight persons were arrested Friday, April 7, for misdemeanor charges at a drug checkpoint on I-35 in Daviess County. The charges involved possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, with bonds posted ranging from $500 to $750. All were from Iowa or Minnesota.

Also arrested at the checkpoint and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance was Gregory S. King, 43, of Muscatine, Iowa. He posted bond of $25,000.

A Gilman City resident reported she was the victim of assault by a person know to her on April 9.

A 22-year-old Green City woman was arrested April 10 for misdemeanor passing bad checks. She posted $100 cash bond and was released.

On April 10, a Winston woman reported violation of a court order of protection.

On April 10, Ron Peterie of Balcony House Antiques, Jamesport, reported theft of several articles from his business valued at approximately $500.
