Gallatin R-5 athletes, cheerleaders, managers and statisticians drew recognition last Thursday night from R-5 boosters at the Bulldog winter sports banquet.

Bulldog cheerleader sponsor Natalie Shuler introduced the 1999-2000 basketball cheerleaders and thanked them for their hard work. They were: Anna Barton, Rebecca Harper, Ida Jarboe, Shannon O’Dell, Mackenzie Riley and captain Kara Sullenger.

Head wrestling coach Barron Gann praised the efforts of his grapplers, who finished with a 3-7 dual record. Receiving letters and/or certificates of participation were: freshmen Justin Baker, B. J. Jones, Cody Boehm and Andrew Parker; sophomores Ricky Hendricks, Blake Parker and Austin Story (tri-cpt.); juniors Randy Eaton (tri-cpt.) and Luke Leeper, and senior tri-captain Daniel Wilson.

Special wrestlers awards were presented to: Randy Eaton, most falls and most valuable wrestler; Cody Boehm, most improved; Andrew Parker, rookie of the year; Luke Leeper, sportsmanship; Austin Story and Blake Parker, coaches’ awards; and Daniel Wilson, 4-year letter winner.

Coach Rick Lin introduced members of the 20-8 Lady Bulldog basketball squad that made the finals of the District 16 Tournament, and members of the 12-5 junior varsity team. They were: freshmen Jacklyn Albrecht, Amanda Bohannon, Kamille Burrell, Kayli Burrell, Brook Carder, Roxanne Davitt, Jessica King, Jamie Lunsford and Laura McCann; sophomores Kim Clevenger, Kari Dickinson and Erin Sweatman; juniors Jamie Burnett and Rochelle Davitt; and seniors Shannon Batson, Courtney Houghton, Julie Macy, Allison Spidle and Rebecca Stith.

Special Lady Bulldog basketball awards fell to: Roxi Davitt, rookie of the year; Shannon Bastson and Kayli Burrell, hustle award; Rochelle Davitt, top rebounder and most valuable player; Allison Spidle, defensive player of the year and 4-year letter winner; Erin Sweatman, most improved; Courtney Houghton, coaches award and 4- year letter winner.

Coach Lin recognized members of the 22-5 and undefeated Grand River Conference champion boys basketball team and 13-5 jayvee team with letters and/or certificates of participation. They were: freshmen Zach Osgood and Tolen Wilson, sophomores Brice Garnett, Robert Heldenbrand, Jake Humphrey, Robert Mazur, Zach Strange, Ryan Thompson and Scott Wilkinson; juniors Joey Evans, Nathan Henderson and Joe Smith; and seniors Quentin Carroll, Neal Steward, Chad Sullenger, Bobby Wood and Kenny Youtsey.

Special Bulldog basketball awards were given to: Zach Osgood, rookie of the year; Chad Sullenger, hustle award and most valuable player; Robert Heldenbrand, top rebounder; Quentin Carroll, defensive player of the year; Brice Garnett, most improved; and Neal Steward, coaches’ award.

Gallatin R-5 athletic director Chris Elbert presented sportsmanship awards to Julie Macy, Neal Steward and Coach Lin.

The program also included names of students who earned 1998-99 academic all-conference by achieving a grade point average of 3.66 or higher during the 98-99 school year and participating in a recognized GRC activity.
