The Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Energy Center announced today the awarding of a low-interest loan of $294,700 to finance energy-efficiency improvements at the Trenton R-IX School District.

The improvements should reduce the school’s annual utility bill by $36,800. The improvements include installation of a ground-source heat pump and new windows, an investment that should pay for itself within eight years. In addition, the improvements will reduce pollutants from electric power plants and fuel combustion.

Missouri school districts and local governments saved an estimated $1.3 million in energy costs as a result of last year’s loans. Committed to encouraging the efficient use of energy in Missouri, the Energy Center plans to loan $5 million this year to schools and local governments. The center’s loan program helps public schools and local governments invest in projects that will save money that can be used for other needed expenditures. The center has loaned more than $22 million throughout the state since 1988.

“This kind of loan pays for itself through energy savings and allows districts to improve school conditions for students, to save taxpayer money and to redirect the savings toward essential educational services,” said Anita Randolph, director of DNR’s Energy Center.
