Chief of Police Jim Wycoff provided a report to the Gallatin Board of Aldermen on the need to upgrade service firearms for the department during their regular meeting held March 13, 2000. Bids were also presented on the re-sale value of the current firearms.

Five Glock .40 caliber Model 22 firearms were purchased for $408 each or $2,040 total, subject to any permissible limits set by ordinance. A bid was accepted from The Armory for the re-sale of the current five Sig-Sauer .45 caliber Model 220 firearms for $450 each or $2,250.

Chief Wycoff discussed the department’s emphasis on community policing principles. The department hopes to partner with the Healthy Community initiative underway in Gallatin. The department will also be distributing a survey seeking the community’s input on a number of issues.

The board was invited to attend the third session of the Healthy Community initiative on March 15 at which time the group will continue to explore the development of a long-term plan for the community.

Chief Wycoff announced the awarding of a COPS grant to the Police Department and provided an update on the hiring status of the remaining full-time officers.

Greg Vahrenberg, US Bancorp Piper Jaffray, updated and reviewed the status of the re-financing options for the board.

City Administrator Jason Helton discussed options with the counsel regarding renewal of the liability insurance for the natural gas system.

During comments by alderman, Mr. Snidow asked for a review of the supply arrangements and usage between the City and the City of Hamilton for natural gas transportation and between the City and the water district.

Mr. Barnes inquired about police cars being taken home by officers. Chief Wycoff responded that this policy is in effect while the department is understaffed to provide for quick local response for call-outs during off-duty hours.

Mr. McGinnis inquired about a report of children inside the municipal pool fence.

Mayor Davis asked about the response to the natural gas hook-up incentive program. The City Administrator responded that, though the program is in its early stages, a small number of customers have inquired about the opportunity.

Bills in the amount of $147,130.75 were approved for payment.

City wide Spring Clean-up dates were announced. East side – March 27 and West side – March 29.

The above are the unapproved minutes of the regular meeting for the City of Gallatin held on March 13, 2000, at City Hall. Present were Mayor L.B. Davis, aldermen Norma Griffin, Bill McGinnis, Robert Snidow, Larry Barnes and City Administrator Jason Helton.

The mayor stated that the board would not be returning to open session following the closed session.

The board went into executive session at 7:30 and adjourned at 8:25.
