The Winston R-VI Board of Education met in regular session Feb. 16 in the school cafeteria. Present were board members Hope Becerra, Gary Caldwell, Clyde Edwards, Roger Barker, Bob Clark, Wayne Uthe and Chretta Mastin, board candidate Julie Clark, and facilities committee members Dean Harp, Judy Hiley and Barbara Youtsey.

The board met with architect Michael Teegarden and the facilities committee to review the particulars of the $225,000 bond issue which will be presented at the April 4 election. The bond requires a four-sevenths majority for passage. The facilities committee set a meeting date to discuss how to promote the campaign. They will be setting additional meetings as the voting date draws near.

The board established two public meeting dates concerning the bond election — Sat., March 4, at 6 p.m. in conjunction with the elementary basketball night, following a 5 p.m. potato and salad bar dinner and preceding the basketball games, and Tuesday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m. with the spring band concert to follow at 7:30.

Elementary principal Lisa Bielby reported K-6 enrollment of 107 with a 92% attendance rate for the previous month and preschool enrollment of 8.

High school principal Wendell Burns reported enrollment of 68 in grades 7-12 with 93% attendance for the previous month. He presented a curriculum revision for practical arts, which the board adopted. He also presented the Winston R-VI Assessment Program and a revision in the goals for graduates, both of which were approved by the board.

The board approved the summer school report and evaluation as presented by Supt. David Michael, summer school coordinator. They also received and accepted the Parents As Teachers report and evaluation as presented by Carol Caudle, PAT coordinator.

Mr. Burns gave an update on MSIP/CSIP and advised the board that there would be an MSIP in- service for all teachers on Feb. 22.

The board granted approval for Coach Eric Lewis to rent the gym on Feb. 26.

The board went into executive session to discuss contracts for the two principals. After returning to open session, two-year contracts were extended for elementary principal Lisa Bielby and high school principal Wendell Burns.

The next regular board meeting is at 7 p.m. on March 15 in the school cafeteria.
