Funeral services for Raymond Kinder were held Feb. 23, 2000, at Price Funeral Home in Maryville. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville. Masonic service was held Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the funeral home, under the auspices of Nodaway Lodge No. 470, AF & AM – Maryville. Memorial contributions may be sent to the United Methodist Men or Northwest Missouri State University Foundation.

Raymond Edward Kinder, 82, Maryville, formerly of St. Joseph, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at a St. Joseph hospital.

Mr. Kinder was born in Maryville. He was a graduate of Maryville High School and received degrees from Northwest Missouri State Teacher’s College-Maryville and the University of Missouri. He lived in St. Joseph 28 years before returning to Maryville in 1996.

Mr. Kinder served as superintendent of schools in New Hampton and Faucett, and coached at Lathrop, Gallatin and Rosendale. He worked 27 years at Lake City Arsenal, Independence, and was sheriff of Buchanan County for 13 years.

Mr. Kinder was a member of Maryville First United Methodist Church; Nodaway Lodge No. 470, AF &AM; Men’s Forum; Northwest Missouri State University-Maryville Booster Club; and Order of the Eastern Star No. 262, all of Maryville.

He had also been a member of the Mitchell Chapter Royal Arch Masons; St. Joseph Council R & SM; Hugh DePaynes Commandry; Edwin Carpenter York Right College No. 151 High Twelve, all of St. Joseph, and Lake City Arsenal 25 Year Club, Independence. Mr. Kinder also received the first Turett Award from Northwest Missouri State University.

On June 8, 1941, he married Evangeline Barton in Hopkins. She survives of Maryville.

Mr. Kinder was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd G.

Other survivors include four daughters, Ramona Thompson, Placentia, Calif., Diana Beasley, Millstadt, Ill., Judith A. Herd, El Paso, Texas, and Davida Carnahan, Tallahassee, Fla.; two brothers, William A. and Walter E., both of Maryville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
