The Gallatin R-5 Board of Education heard a time table for the financing of summer renovation projects during their regular meeting held Thursday, Feb. 17.

A public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 1, 2000, in the Gallatin R-5 library for the purpose of considering the funding of energy conservation and deficiency improvements through a guaranteed performance contract with UNICOM Energy Services to existing facilities of the district.

The school’s preliminary budget for 2000-2001 projected a $10,000 to $20,000 positive balance. Building renovations re-figure the budget at a $140,000 planned future deficit.

During new business, the board approved and updated a crisis plan and also approved a technology plan for the district.

The board reviewed the school’s performance on the MAP test. Gallatin eighth grade math scores rated in the top 10% for the state.

Contracts were offered to Mr. Sweatman and Mr. Burrell for the 2000-2001 school year.

Superintendent Ruse reviewed a social promotion bill (HB 1076) and reported on the summer school survey. Vocational tuition will be doubled next year. The Vocational/Technical school at Bethany has offered its training at one of the lowest costs in the state, subsidizing the rest of the sending schools. After a review of their finances, the Vo-Tech school decided to upgrade. Tuition will now be in line with other Vo-Tech schools in the area.

The board heard a ledger report. Bills in the amount of $304,985.00 were approved for payment.

Next board meeting is scheduled for March 16.

All board members were present: Roy Pendleton, Danny Dixon, Sandra Gay, Bill Irby, Stan Ellis, Junior Burke, and Vance Hefley.
