Funeral services for Dorothy Cary were held Friday, Feb. 18, at Royer Funeral Home in Grain Valley. Graveside services were held Saturday, Feb. 19, at Coffey Cemetery.
Dorothy Aileen Cary, 84, Independence, died Feb. 16, 2000, at Independence Regional Health Care.
Mrs. Cary was born in Fairmont.
On Sept. 7, 1936, she married Rev. James E. Cary. They pastored several churches in the area, including Gilman, Bethany, Jameson, Fairfax and Houstonia. He died in 1978.
Mrs. Cary was also preceded in death by two daughters, Jean Ann Roberts in 1970 and Janet L. Thomas in 1999.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Jipsen, Lee’s Summit; three sons, James R. of Fairgrove, John T. of Lee’s Summit, and Jerry F. of Independence; three sisters, Rita Lindsey of Independence, Martha Stump of San Antonio, Texas, and Mary V. Coulter of Bend, Ore.; one brother, Gene Thurman, California; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
