The Hundley-Whaley Farm Planning Committee began a region-wide fund raising effort on Jan. 1. To date that effort has generated $8,665 according to Judy Henry, Research Farm bookkeeper.
“We would like to have collected more by this time,” said Don Null, Research Farm manager, “but the process is underway, and it just takes a while for people to decide to give.”
The money is to be used to help with the construction of the Learning Discovery Center at the research farm. State and federal dollars allocated to the project total $500,000. A total of $110,000 has also been pledged or given from private sources prior to this fund raising effort.
Those giving gifts of $1,000 or more have been United Electric Cooperative, Maryville, and Savannah; the Bank of Fairport; and Lois and Don Null, Denver.
Gifts of between $500 and $999 have been given by Ben Wynn, Burlington Junction; Richard and Janet Mullock family, Parnell; and Mrs. George Dierenfeldt, King City, in memory of her husband.
Gifts of $250 to $499 have been received form Grimes Farm, Osborn; Russell and Vonda Gillespie, Albany; Earley Tractor, Cameron; Wayne and Ramona Colborn, Rea; DeKalb County Farm Bureau, Maysville; Roger Vest, Maryville; Lt. Col. Charles J. Elliott, Fulton; Harry and Naomi Mullock, Parnell; Dick and Lila Townsend, Rosendale; Brroks Hurst, Tarkio; and Dr. Steve Nickell, Stanberry. The Worth County FFA has also pledged $250.
Gifts of $100 to $249 have been received from Allan and Joyce Schneider, Cosby; Joe Boatright, King City; Chillicothe Young Farmers, Chillicothe; Wells Impalement, Maysville; Kenneth and Coleen Mullock family, Parnell; Gordon and Pat Manring, Albany; and Independent Farmers Bank, Maysville.
