Hazel Mary McFry, age 77, of Gallatin died Friday, January 14, 2000, at Daviess County Care Center, Gallatin.
Mrs. McFry was born December 17, 1922, in Poplar Bluff, MO. She graduated from the Mountain View, MO, high school in 1938 and had also attended a business school in Springfield, MO.
Mrs. McFry and her husband, Archie, owned and operated the Ben Franklin Store in Gallatin for 28 years and were partners in other Ben Franklin Stores elsewhere in Missouri. They owned and operated the Family Shoe Store in Gallatin and Trenton for 15 years, a grocery store and a Hudson car dealership in Mountain View, MO.
Mrs. McFry had lived in Gallatin since 1955, moving from Warner Robbins, GA. She had lived in Warner Robbins for two and one-half years and had lived in Mountain View, MO prior to that.
On December, 11, 1941, Hazel Mary Smith was united in holy matrimony with Archie McFry in Sumter, SC. He survives of Gallatin.
Mrs. McFry was a member of the Gallatin United Methodist Church and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also had held various other business, civic and social club memberships throughout her life.
Mrs. McFry was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Fred and Verdie (Grunels) Smith; a brother, Lloyd Smith; and three sisters, Letha Hannah, Eva Mahaney and Gladys Hamilton. Additional survivors include two daughters, Peggy Noel of Gallatin and Judy Tomko of San Antonio, TX; one sister, Edith Meyers of Douglasville, GA; five grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and many dear friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 17, at 10 a.m., at Hope-Eldringhoff Funeral Home. Interment was in Brown Cemetery, Gallatin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Northwest Missouri Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Gallatin United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home at 201 South Market, Gallatin, MO 64640.
