Farmers’ Electric Cooperative is sponsoring its 37th Annual Youth Tour to Washington Essay Contest. Three area students will win all-expense paid trips to our nation’s capitol, courtesy of FEC.

“This has long been one of our favorite youth programs each year,” said Dan Bryan, FEC Executive Vice-President and CEO. “It is a great learning experience that culminates in a wonderful trip to Washington, D.C.”

Area high school juniors are asked to submit a 250-600 word essay. This year’s subject is: “A Day Without Electricity.”

Essay applications and guidelines have been mailed to the junior class English teachers at all of the 28 high schools that lie within or border FEC’s service territory. Applications may also be picked up at the cooperative office in Chillicothe.

The essays are due at the cooperative office at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25. A panel of three judges will determine the winners of the contest.

The winning students will meet in Columbia with approximately 80 fellow students, that have been sponsored by other rural electric cooperatives, on June 16. They will return to Columbia June 22.

FEC will also provide transportation to and from Columbia.
