November meeting minutes are reported of the Gallati R-5 board of education.
The Gallatin R-5 Board of Education heard a report by Rick Kinn and Tom Rinner from Unicom during their regular November meeting. The proposal included a districtwide lighting upgrade, a new roof on the elementary building, and new heating and air conditioning at the elementary and ag/industrial technology building.
After the presentation, board members sought more details about lowering the ceiling in the elementary and safety lock-down features on school doors. The board will hear a more detailed presentation in January.
The board heard a third reading on the medication policy change. The issue was tabled indefinitely.
In financial matters, the board transferred $182,900 from fund one to fund two. Bills in the amount of $215,878 were approved for payment.
Superintendent Jim Ruse gave the food establishment inspection report with everything being in good order. The freezer for the elementary has been delivered. Mr. Ruse informed the board that bus inspections will be held in January.
The board will be seeking more information regarding the new performance-based teacher evaluations. The new evaluations are too new at this point to make recommendations.
During the principals’ reports, a district crisis plan including lock-down procedures was discussed. The district presently has a crisis plan but is considering more updated features.
High School Principal Mike Burrell handed out basketball and wrestling schedules. The athletic banquet was Nov. 19. The Upward Bound grant out of Trenton will have several students participating. The program starts in January. A GAP program for tracking and counseling at-risk students was discussed.
Elementary Principal Martin Sweatman reported that mid-quarter at the elementary ended Nov. 19. The fifth grade sleep-over was held. The fifth and sixth grade geography contest is Dec. 14. The grades 5-12 Christmas program is Dec. 8. The elementary Christmas program is Dec. 15.
All members were present for the November Board of Education meeting, including Vance Hefley, Sandra Alden, Junior Burke, Danny Dixon, Stan Ellis, Bill Irby and Roy Pendleton. Superintendent Ruse, High School Principal Mike Burrell and Elementary Principal Martin Sweatman were also present along with secretary Lynda Swopes. Marilyn Hemry and Ann Everly were CTA guests.
