“Hawaiian” night sees GHS sweep Winston
Gallatin varsity basketball teams captured both games of the “Maui Classic” held Tuesday night at Winston High School. The Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 46-15 victory over the Lady Redbirds. Gallatin’s boys took the nightcap, 64-31. Hawaiian shirts were the attire of choice for Gallatin and Winston coaches as they played out Tuesday night’s mock theme proclaimed by the game program.
Freshman Kaylie Burrell paced Gallatin with 12 points in the girls game. Shannon Batson chipped in 8 points. Courtney Houghton, Rebecca Stith, Rochelle Davitt and Roxi Davitt each added 6 points for the winners. Ashley Lang led Winston with 5 points.
Gallatin’s girls move to 5-0 on the season heading into Friday night’s home game with Princeton.
Senior Chad Sullenger popped in 3 treys in the boys game and finished with a game-high 21 points. Robert Heldenbrand added 13 points and Neal Steward chimed in with 8. Jase Lee topped Winston with 15 points.
The Bulldogs upped their record to 4-1 as they prepare to face the 4-1 Tigers Friday in their Grand River Conference opener. Princeton’s only loss came to unbeaten Jefferson in the semifinal round of the Albany Tournament. Gallatin teams travel to Gilman City next Tuesday for non-conference action.
