Gallatin First Baptist

Morning worship began with the adult choir singing “He is Here.” Eric Kloepping and Robert Heldenbrand presented a skit “The Pig” in connection with the beginning of the Lottie Moon Christmas offering for International Missions. For the ministry of praise, Debbie Heldenbrand sang “Here We Are” and Sheila Bridgman “signed” the words.

Bro. Allen’s message was “Seek Christ For Who He Really Is,” from Luke 2. At the close of morning worship, a special invitation was given to the ladies to come to the “Christmas Tea” on Saturday, Dec. 11, at the church from 11-1. Tickets may be purchased from Michelle, Sally, Abbey, Alice, or by calling the church office between 8 and 12 daily.

Women on mission met Tuesday at the church for study and prayer for International Missions. The theme for this year is “The Unfinished Task.” Trustees are meeting Wednesday night at 8. Keenagers will have their monthly luncheon on Thursday at noon. Ham is provided. You are requested to bring a covered dish.

Dec. 5 has been declared as missions day. The morning speaker will be Bob Hampton, pastor of FBC, Odessa. There will be a fellowship meal at noon with the social committee fixing the meat. You are encouraged to be here for this special occasion and are asked to bring two of your favorite dishes of food.

The children will present their Christmas program “Lone Star Gulch” Sunday, Dec. 12, at 7. The adult cantata, “Come Celebrate Christmas” is at 7 on Dec. 19. The deacons will be in charge of the Christmas eve, Silent Lord’s Supper, from 5-7 on Dec. 24.

Jameson First Baptist

uest speaker, Rev. Roger Cain’s morning message was “Your Christian Life.” Scripture was from I Samuel 16:6-7 and Galatians 5:22-23. Missionary birthday was given by Hertha Bieschke. Offering bearers were Amanda Bohannon and Chrystal Cook. Special music was “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” by Elaine Bohannon.

We had 90 attend our thanksgiving dinner and to hear message in song by the Gospelaires. There will be no Wednesday night service. Christmas program is 10:30 on Dec. 19. Prayer needs: James Osborn, Rick Bieschke, Joe Smith, Coleman Franks, Harry Rice, LaVerne Drummond, Betty Barlow, Ramona Dutro, Virginia Meyer, Elsie Hall, Rosemary Bear and Chrystall Mosseau.

Gallatin First Christian

Sue Bird and Ann Schweizer were organist and pianist. Cassie Parton and Marilyn Ripple were hosts along with greeters Herb Whitt and Chuck Culver. Candle lighters were Kinsey Batson and Jamie Lunsford.

Kathy Frost was worship leader with the scripture reading Job 23:1-9 and I Corinthians 1:25-31. Mark Corwin conducted the children’s moment. The elders for the day were Bill Steward and Junior Stith. Pastor Smith’s message was “Silence.”

Prayer concerns were for Olive Howard who is having surgery in St. Joseph this week. See Marge Hennen for quilt raffle tickets for the upcoming bazaar. Board meeting is at 7 on Dec. 1.

The annual chicken dinner and bazaar is Dec. 4, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Children’s Christmas program practice is from 5:30-6:30 Wednesday and Sunday mornings at 9:30 for ages first grade through eighth grade. All kids are encouraged to join in.

The community Thanksgiving Eve service was held at the First Christian Church on Nov. 24. The Hanging of the Green service was held Nov. 28 with the UAF women’s basketball team as guests of Amy Woodruff. Donations are being taken for the Adopt-A-Family program to try to adopt two families for Christmas.

Gallatin United Methodist

Sunday was “Building Fund Sunday.” Pianist was Bill Hendrix. Candle lighters were Andrew Pierce and Breanne Brammer.

Children’s Moments: The Meaning of Advent. The Scripture lesson was from Mark 13:24-37, and Pastor David Fitzmaurice’s message was “Living in Expectation of the Lord’s Coming.”

Hanging of the Greens Service was held Nov. 28 at the church. A very nice program was led by Sheryl Warren, with songs, specials by Sheryl and by Anna Barton and Amy Sullenger, then a carry-in snack buffet was enjoyed by all.

Ruby Circle met Nov. 29 at the Church with Shirley Wood as hostess.

Dec. 5 our church will be on Preceptor Zeta Chi’s homes tour. Jan Johnson and Abbey Wilson will be playing the organ from 5-8 p.m.

Happy anniversary to Robert and Zella Barnes.

Lake Viking Church

Wednesday ladies Bible study was opened with prayer and devotions by Norma McCaulla. The lesson led by Betty Cooksey was part two of “Attitudes Which Help Us Grow,” from Joshua 19. Betty closed in prayer.

Wednesday evening Bible study was canceled. Prayer requests are for Bro. Alvin and Inez Hillman, Joan Pelon, Joe and Lucy Gray, Shelby and Ruby Danley, Shirley McCaulla. Prelude by Cynthia and Buddy was “Angels From the Realms of Glory.” Call to worship was lighting of the first Advent candle, the “prophecy candle” by Jack and Janice Humphrey. The invocation was by Karl Frederick.

The choir sang “Go Tell it on the Mountain,” directed by Karla Worthington. Rev. Hillman’s youth message was “God Will Help Us Make the Right Decisions.” Ministry of music by Susan MacEachern was a vocal solo “What Child is This?” Susan played the auto harp and Buddy Myers played the violin. Scripture was Isaiah 9: 6-7. The message by Rev. Hillman was “The Saviorhood of Christ.”

Rev. Hillman gave the benediction and postlude was “His Name is Wonderful” by Cynthia and Buddy. Happy birthday to Mary Buehler and Tate Worthington.

Pattonsburg UMC Charge

Valerie’s sermon was “The One Thing,” from Luke 10:38-42 and Philippians 3:4b-16. Pattonsburg’s Hanging of the Green and soup/chili supper is at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3. Remember in prayer the Ralph Salmon family, Oved Daniel, Rosalie Jarrett and Jared Brandt.

Pattonsburg First Baptist

Sunday School attendance was 86. Happy birthday to Cassie Barker, Kris and Elizabeth Lowrey and Shirley Hulett. Dan and Kelly Noble observed an anniversary. Cindy Barker had children’s church, “Be Thankful for Little Things,” Ephesians 5:20.

Bro. Ron gave one of his poems “Good Morning, Tex,” before his sermon, “A dynamic Church,” from I Thessalonians 1 and James I. Our church had services at the Daviess County Care Center in the afternoon and Family Night in the evening.

North Ridge Bible study is at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Prayer meeting is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. W.O.F. will meet at the parsonage. Bring a Christmas treat and grab-bag gift. Thanksgiving/Christmas fellowship is at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 5.

One hundred-seventy Thanksgiving trays were prepared and delivered last Monday. We appreciate all who prepared goodies and helped deliver. The flower arrangements were from the family of Ralph Salmon. Remember them in your prayers. Continue to pray for Minnie Conover, Vera Peugh, Vernice Bush, Steve Mayberry, Agnes Van Meter, Dorlene Munn and Darrell and Cody Ratliff.

Winston First Baptist

Holiday greetings to you all. We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that the Christmas holiday brings you peace and hope through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Sunday School was an experience is God’s Word with application made to the life we now live. Then worship began as we celebrated the first Sunday of Advent. After the song service, Bro. John brought the message entitled, “Saved, Now What?” from Acts 2.

Sunday afternoon was filled with much activity as Jenny and the cast for the Christmas play, “Christmas Around the World,” gathered for practice. The play will be presented on Dec. 19, 7 p.m., at our church. Then, at 4:30, the youth gathered for “Jumping for Jesus.” They were in the spirit of things. At 6:30, Bro. John began a verse-by-verse study in the book of Revelation. It was an exciting beginning to a very important study.

We want to give a special thank you to Karla Wilkerson for playing the piano for us in the absence of Mary Ellen. She did a great job.

Fairview Community Church

Betty McFee opened this morning’s services leading hymns of praise while Velma Wolf led in prayer. John Stith read from Romans 6:1-10. Sunday School concluded at Ruth 3:10. Today’s message was “Procrastination Enemy of the Heart,” from Acts 24:24-27. This evening’s service topic was “The Abundant Life,” from John 10:10.

Prayer requests are for Gene and Ellen Burnam, George and Belle McFee, Merlin Wright, Wanda Edwards, Bruce Shuman, Ron and Billie Jo, Margarie Tritten, Mary Lou Drummond, Gaylen Bridgeman, Lloyd Bowman, Marie, Larry Pittsenbarger and Norma Galt.

Altamont United Methodist

Thirty-two were present for Hanging of the Greens on Sunday. Jennifer and Samantha Bridgeman were the candle lighters. Velma Talbott played the prelude music “Star of the East.” Bertie Stith gave the reading, “The Gospel Christmas Tree.” The children heard the story of the little boy who took baby Jesus from the Nativity scene, for a ride in his new little red wagon.

The children enjoyed decorating the church in preparation for Jesus’ birth. Francie Toney and Jack Malo lit the first candle of Advent. Our visitors were Don and Velma Talbott’s daughter, Susan, and family of Dallas, Texas. Samantha Bridgeman presented her birthday offering.

Olive Baptist

Attendance for worship was 21. Kodie Carman shared a poem, “Heaven’s Grocery Store,” as the special. Bro. Elrod’s message was “Christ the King” from Matthew 1:1-17. Business meeting is next Sunday evening. The final practice for the Christmas program is next Sunday evening.

The program will be presented Dec. 12 during morning worship. Bible question of the week: “Who was the youngest king mentioned in the Bible?” Answer in II Chronicles 24:1. Answer to last week’s question: Ahasuerus.

Pattonsburg Christian

Opening thought: “Come near to God and He will come near to you.” Dr. Ben Awbrey’s sermon was “Making Your Life Count for Christ,” from Philippians 1:8. Daphna Cummings conducted Advent services, during which she lit the first Advent candle, followed by the congregation singing “Oh Come, All Ye Faithful.”

Beginning Dec. 5, we will bring canned goods for the food pantry. They will be delivered at the end of December. Please remember in prayer David Warford, Ava Pugh, Kaye Woodring, Garl Clark and Mary and Woodrow Ladd. Our sympathy is extended to the family of Ralph Salmon.

First Assembly of God

The flu bug has attacked some of our church family. Prayer requests were for Ina McFee, Bro. and sister Lint, sister Hutsell, Goldena Macrander, Ralph and Elizabeth Moore and Mrs. Harrington. In our missionary March, girls collected $18.70 and boys collected $18.48.

Prayer meeting is each Thursday at 10 a.m. at Louise Curtis’ home. A baby sitter is provided.

In our children’s church, sister Pratt is working with the children getting them ready to go Christmas caroling at the nursing home. Brother Bennett’s message was from Psalm’s 103:1-7, “Who Forgiveth All of Thine Iniquities.” It was good to have Dennis and Kim Hunt and family back with us Sunday morning.
