Gallatin’s girls started out slow and ended on a fast note. The boys started out fast and ended slow. However, both earned 18-point victories Monday night over East Buchanan in the season opener for each school.
Ten different Lady Bulldogs found the scoring column as Gallatin’s girls knocked off the EB Lady Bulldogs, 51-33. Gallatin raced away from a 9-9 1st quarter tie to grab a 24-15 lead at intermission. The Bulldog boys put 3 players in double figures as they captured the nightcap, 61-43.
Junior Rochelle Davitt scored 11 points to lead the GHS girls’ effort. Senior Allison Spidle added 9 points, followed by 6 points each from sophomore Erin Sweatman and freshman Roxi Davitt. Senior Shannon Batson contributed 5 points. Senior Courtney Houghton and freshman Kamille Burrell each tallied 4 points. Senior Rebecca Stith and freshmen Kayli Burrell and Brook Carder rounded out GHS scoring with 3, 2 and one point, respectively.
Sophomore Robert Heldenbrand dumped in 22 points to lead the GHS boys to yet another season opening victory. Senior Quentin Carroll added 13 points and senior Chad Sullenger contributed 11.
Senior Kenny Youtsey chipped in 8 points in the winning effort.
