Jameson First Baptist

Bro. Steve Metzger’s morning message was “Persecution of the Church.” Scripture was Acts 5:17-42. Missionary birthdays were given by Linda Bohannon. An anniversary offering was given by Lowell and Rosemary Bear; birthday offering was given by Donald Smith. Offering bearers were Travis Bohannon and Matt Goerne. Special music was “One Day at a Time” by Elaine Bohannon.

Thanksgiving dinner is at 6 p.m. on Nov. 21. Turkey, potatoes, dressing, noodles, bread, drink and table service will be furnished. Everyone is asked to bring a vegetable, salad or dessert. The Gospelaires will bring a message in song at 7 p.m. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend.

Prayer needs: LaVerne Drummond, Ramona Dutro, Betty Barlow, Virginia Myer, James Osborn, Colman Franks, Harry Rice and the family of Helen Clements.

Gallatin First Christian

Sue Bird and Ann Schweitzer were organist and pianist. Don and Marilyn Hemry were hosts along with greeters Herb Whitt and Chuck Culver. Candle lighters were Taylor Henderson and Whitney Boyd. Wendy Smith was worship leader with the Scripture reading from John 9:1-13. Vera Sue Nelson gave the children’s moment. Sandy Evans had the ministry of music. Elders for the day were Sandy Evans and Lucille Bruce. Pastor Smith’s message was “Our Solid Rock.”

Prayer concerns were for Barbara Irby in the loss of her father, Larry Pittsenbarger, Paul Worley, Natalie Salmon, Mark Corwin’s dad, Shirley Fry, Steve Agenstein and Amanda Rains’ friend.

See Marge Hennen for quilt raffle tickets for the upcoming bazaar. The annual chicken dinner and bazaar will be from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 4. Nov. 24 is the Community Thanksgiving service with Gallatin First Christian as host church.

Faith Circle meeting is at 7 p.m. on Nov. 18. Monday night Bible study continues at the Frys’ home at 7. Children’s Christmas program practice is from 5:30-6:30 on Wednesday for ages first grade through eighth grade. All children are encouraged to join in.

Donations are being taken for the Adopt-A-Family program to try to adopt two families for Christmas and to also bring non-perishable food items for the food pantry.

Olive Baptist

Worship attendance was 26. Children’s sermon was “Creation.” Bro. Elrod’s message was “Just Like Everybody Else” from Luke 8:9-14. The Lord’s Supper will be observed next Sunday during worship. Bible question of the week was “Who said: ‘For I am holier than you?'” (Isaiah 65:3-5). Answer to last week’s question is Isaiah’s son, Mahershalalhashbaz.

Lake Viking Church

The Wednesday ladies Bible study opened with prayer and devotions by Helen Burns. The lesson was part two of “Learning to Trust God” from Joshua 11, led by June Catt. Wednesday evening Bible study and prayer meeting was led by Rev. Hillman. The Bible study was on Genesis 5-6, “The Lineage of Adam and Noah and the Great Flood.” Rev. Hillman closed in prayer.

Prayer requests are for those with physical needs and those who have lost loved ones.

The prelude by Sarah Frederick, piano, Cynthia Hillman, organ, and Buddy Myers, violin, was “How Great Thou Art.” Call to worship was Psalm 100 and the invocation was by George Jacobs. Special music was a vocal solo by Susan MacEachern, “Maker of the Heavens.” Susan played the autoharp and Buddy Myers played the violin.

Offertory prayer was by Ruth Bailey. Rev. Hillman’s’s youth message was “Share Your Good and Bad Times With God.” Ministry of music was a vocal solo by George Jacobs, “Will the Circle be Unbroken.” The scripture reading by Rev. Hillman was Mark 6:31-46. The message was “Time to Rest.” Benediction was by George Jacobs and the postlude was by Sarah, Cynthia and Buddy, “He is Lord.”

Fairview Community Church

Betty McFee opened the morning service leading hymns of praise. Velma Wolf led in prayer. John Stith read from Matthew 6:14. Sunday School discussed the Book of Ruth. A business meeting followed. The week of Nov. 21 we will be sharing a Thanksgiving dinner with our community, with evening services sponsored by the Winston Ministerial Alliance, fellowship following.

The message was “Simple Ironies” from Matthew 6:24-34 and Philippians 4:6-7. The evening message was “Praise the Lord.”

Prayer requests are for Gene and Ellen Burnam, Gaylen Bridgeman, the Stamper family, Bessie Lear family, Margarie Tritten, George and Belle McFee, Carolyn Testerman, Betty McFee, the Webb family, Lloyd Bowman, Merlin Wright, Walter Mason and Norma Gault.

Gallatin Presbyterian

Call to worship was Psalm 84:1-2, “How Lovely are Thy Tabernacles, Oh, Lord of Hosts.” Special music was a rendition of “How Great Thou Art.” Dr. Allen’s sermon was entitled “How to Deal with Stress” from I Thessalonians 4. Best wishes were extended to Pat and L.D. Jefferson on their wedding anniversary. Our church held the afternoon service at Gallatin Sunrise Center.

There will be a short session meeting next Sunday. Prayer continues for Charles Belshe.

Winston First Baptist

Greetings to all in the name of the Lord. It was yet another beautiful day in the Lord as we gathered to study the Word and worship. We had a wonderful Sunday School with exciting things beginning to take place. We then gathered for worship and sang the songs of Zion. It was wonderful! Bro. John then brought the message from Acts 2 entitled “The Truth in the Message.”

Jumping for Jesus was held at 4:30 p.m. and they had a great time together with fun, games and serious consideration of practical application of Biblical concepts in our lives. Sunday evening was special in that Myra led in a time of testimony and emphasis on the truth that we are all missionaries as we share our life in Christ with others.

We are saddened to say good-by this week to Bessie Lear. Bessie is the mother to our own Ica Uthe. Bessie, a member of the First Baptist Church of Gallatin, was 104 years young and lived her life before the Lord. Her testimony rings in the hearts of all who knew her. While we are saddened at her leaving us, we rejoice with the all of Heaven in her homecoming to forever be with her Lord. We look forward to the day we will see her there.

Altamont United Methodist

Twenty-seven were present for church services. Worship theme was “God Has Given Us Talents and Abilities to Use in His Service.” Cody Walton and Derrick Eaton were the bell ringers. Devon Pierce and Amanda Eaton were the acolytes. Mission moment was by Rebecca Stith.

Children’s time was “God Has a Magical World.” Special organ music was presented by Velma Talbott. Offering bearers were Charles Allen and Barbara Youtsey. Pastor Marilyn’s message was “Making the Right Investment” from Matthew 25:14-30.

Pastor Betty Heyser Huffman presented the altar bouquet. We are happy to report Liz Duffy is much improved after her fall. Prayers are needed for Zaidee Hawman and Luther Olmstead, brother of Carolyn Youtsey, who is in a coma.

We will have a Thanksgiving service and program next Sunday, Nov. 21. There will be no Sunday School. We will have a light brunch after services. All are invited.

Pattonsburg UMC Charge

Valerie’s sermon was “Use it or Lose it” from Matthew 25:14-30. Members of Cameron UMC helped Saturday at our church work day. Our circuit pot luck will be at noon Nov. 21 at the Civil Bend Community Center. Come join us.

Choir rehearsal will be at 7 p.m. on Nov. 26 and Nov. 18 at Pattonsburg. The Community Thanksgiving service will be at 7 p.m. on Nov. 21 at the Christian Church. Remember in prayer Lila Macrander and her family, Velma Hoover, Kaye Woodring, Vernice Bush, Charlene Kirk, Minnie Conover and Garl Clark.

Gallatin United Methodist

The organist Sunday was Jan Johnson. Candle lighters were Norman Monteith and Daniel Pierce. Children’s moments: We should step out of our comfort zone to be friends to others.

The Scripture lesson was from Jeremiah 38:1-13. Pastor David Fitzmaurice’s message was “Ebed-Melech, A Man Who Served God.”

First Assembly of God

Brother Steve Bivens shared his testimony with everyone that attended services Saturday evening. Steve has written and recorded many songs. He sang “Pass it On,” which was written for Willie Nelson. God delivered Steve from drugs and alcohol just a few years ago and restored his marriage.

We were blessed to have Ivan Parton who is from Hamilton playing in the band. He played steel guitar. The Toney family also sang. Tessa Lollar Toney performed songs she has written and put on her new album. Sunday morning Steve was with us and shared Gods word from the book of Mark 11:25-26 on “Unforgiveness.”

Prayer request Sunday was for Clyde Lint, Wilbur Bennet’s great niece and nephew, Louise Curtis’ brother and Elizabeth Moore. In our missionary march the girls collected $31.15. Prayer meeting is Thursday morning at the church at 9 a.m.

Gallatin First Baptist

Morning worship began with the adult choir singing “Spirit of the Living God.” The children’s message by Bro. Allen and Miss Alice was “Open Your Mouth and Say Thank You.” Linda Arnold, Lori Kloepping and Alice Bartlett sang “Sweet Beulah Land” as the ministry of praise. The morning message by Bro. Allen was “Whom Do Men Say That I Am?” from Matthew 16:13-17.

Sunday evening was Church in Conference. Baptist Women met at the church Tuesday. The program was “People Groups” with Lois Houghton as leader. The Women on Mission will meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Pat’s Diner.

December 5 will be declared Mission Sunday, with Robert Hampton as guest mission speaker. There will be a Church-wide Christmas dinner at noon.

December 11 will be a Christmas Tea for all the women. Tickets may be purchased from Michelle, Sally, Abbey or Alice.

Pattonsburg Christian

Opening thought: “With God, all things are possible.” Dr. Ben Awbrey’s sermon was “Friendship for a Lifetime,” from Philippians 1:6. The Pattonsburg Community Thanksgiving services will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 21 in the Christian Church. Rev. Bill Carter will be the speaker. Everyone is invited. Stay for the fellowship following the service.

Joetta Peterson will be delivering the boxes of school supplies to the flooded areas on the east coast. Please remember in prayer Wayne Plowman, Paul Jr. Cummings, David Warford, Kaye Woodring, Ava Pugh, Norma Gault, and Ralph Salmon. Our sympathy is extended to the families of Bessie Lear, Lee Macrander and Gene Roe.
