The University of Alaska-Fairbanks women’s basketball team will pack up and head south for the Thanksgiving holiday, eventually making an impromptu stop in Gallatin.
Nanooks, along with sophomore Amy Woodruff, will participate in a holiday tournament in Omaha, NE, on Nov. 26 and 27. Their first game will be Friday at 5 p.m. against Missouri Western State College. Game time on Saturday will be either 5 or 7 p.m.
Following Saturday’s game, the 10-member traveling team and coaches will come to Gallatin for a Thanksgiving dinner and overnight stay at the home of Frank and Kay Woodruff. Nanook players will be at Gallatin High School on Monday, possibly in physical education classes and elementary classrooms. The UAF team will practice at GHS at 1:30 Monday afternoon and stay for the Lady Bulldog game in the Gallatin Invitational Tournament.
The team will fly out of Omaha on Tuesday for a western trip that includes playing dates against Western New Mexico and Montana State at Billings.
The Nanook women won their season-opening exhibition game against Team Alaska, minus 3 starters. Woodruff, a guard/forward, led UAF in scoring with 17 points. UAF defeated Christian Heritage College, 93-63, Monday night in the team’s regular season opener.
Woodruff, a sophomore, played in all 28 UAF games last season, averaging 7.1 points per game.
