Winston Historical Society hosted a vegetable soup and chili supper at its meeting of Nov. 4. Twenty-two people attended. Members elected officers for the year 2000.

The officers are: Jay Groves, president; Martha Groves, first vice-president; Dorothy Olsen, second vice- president; Virginia Grigsby, secretary; and Melba Martindale, treasurer. Next meeting is at 7 p.m. on Dec. 2 in the Winston Depot. It will be presided over by the current officers.

The first meeting in 2000 will be on Jan. 6. All interested persons are invited to attend the meetings.

Lake Viking Homemakers Club met Nov. 4 at the clubhouse with 19 members present. Hostesses were Marion Larason and Ruth Vilmain.

Deanna Lewis, administrator of the Daviess County Senior Center, gave a program on the history of the center and its activities and events. Guest Deanna Lewis celebrated a birthday. Anniversaries were celebrated by Marion Larason and Ruth Vilmain. For the devotion, June Catt read two short stories about Thanksgiving. Members answered roll call by telling what they were thankful for. President Ruth Bailey led the business meeting. June Catt, nominating committee, reported on the officers for next year. New officers are Sharon Lutter, president; Marge Revels, vice-president; Joyce Becerra, secretary; Mona Brown, treasurer; Joy Wilsted, devotions; Joann Myers and Donna Smith, callers. Secret pal gifts were exchanged. Programs for next year will be filled out in January.

Anyone with suggestions for programs should contact Marge Revels. There were 39 food pantry items for the month of September. Members should bring a $5 gift for the Christmas party at the next meeting, which is Dec. 2 at the clubhouse.

Writers Guild will meet at 1 p.m. on Nov. 20 at the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Citizens Center, 100 North 10th Street, St. Joseph. The business meeting will be conducted by Karen Douglas, president. Hosts will be Tom Gumbert and Swan Holt. Irene Costello, Oregon, Mo., will present the program on nostalgic writing. Any person interested in writing is welcome to attend Writers Guild meetings and may visit three times before joining. Dues are nominal.

During workshop periods, writers share their successes or projects underway and members are generous in using their experiences to help others. For further information, call Karen Douglas, 816-233-4783.

Preceptor Zeta Chi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Nov. 1 at Breadeaux Pizza with Bonnie Stewart as hostess. Fourteen members answered roll call with a U.S. controversy of the 20th Century. Tickets are now available for the Holiday Home Tour. Lois Agenstein’s program guest speaker was Phyllis Heckenbach, case manager for the Women’s Shelter at Trenton. Nita Cragg will host a holiday meal on Nov. 15.
