The Gallatin R-5 FFA chapter accepted a two-star rating in the National Chapter Award Competition held at the National Convention in Louisville, KY, Oct. 25-30. The award places the chapter among the top five percent of FFA chapters in the nation. Jeremy Henderson accepted his American FFA degree on Saturday morning. Only one percent of members nationwide receive the national recognition. The Gallatin chapter served as National Courtesy Corps for two events.

Members of the dairy team judged on Oct. 26 in Winchester, Ohio, at the Emerald Ayrshire Dairy Farm. On Wednesday they took part in dairy testing and on Thursday they judged and gave oral reason on diary cattle. Members of the Gallatin dairy cattle evaluation team placed 15th in the nation. Ben Hubbard and Nathan Henderson were gold group individuals. Wes Gay and Randy Eaton were in the silver category.

Team members then met with the sponsor representative, Randy Schuring of Associated Milk Producers, Inc. The team was one of 45 participating in the National FFA Dairy Cattle Evaluation Career Development Event. The team was accompanied by their advisor Dennis Croy and High School Principal Mike Burrell.

The remainder of the chapter joined the dairy team in Louisville on Oct. 28. Eighteen members attended, including Trent Dowell, Andy Weldon, Kenny Youtsey, Ida Jarboe, Julie Macy, Kara Sullenger, Chad Sullenger, Kyle Gannan, Travis Bohannon, Scott Crose, Jo Ann Tummons, and Kim Clevenger.

Members traveled by charter bus along with representatives from the Jamesport, North Daviess, Meadville, and Hamilton chapters. While in Louisville they attended several leadership sessions including keynote speeches by Danny Glover, Dave Roever, Emory Austin and other well-known motivational speakers. Members also listened to retiring addresses of National Officers as well as attending the National Career Show. Members toured the Churchill Downs horse racing facility on Thursday afternoon.

Chapter member Kristen Ellis, along with Mike and Vicki Henderson, Edna Bayne and Keith, Tammy and Emily Gay were also in attendance at the National FFA convention in support of the Gallatin FFA chapter.
