The Bank of Coffey officially closed recently. Its last transaction was made by the man who opened the bank.
The Bank of Coffey, which has been in business for 102 years, closed officially on Oct. 30. It has now been moved to Pattonsburg and renamed the Guaranty Bank and Trust. On the last day of business
Glenn Knott, a life long resident of Coffey, was invited to make the last transaction of withdrawing $102.00 representing the years of service the bank has provided to the town of Coffey.
Eighty-two years ago, Mr. Knott also had the first transaction when the bank was moved to its present location and renamed the Bank of Coffey from The Farmers Bank. Mr. Knott was eight years old and had just sold his red Duroc pig, given to him by his uncle, for $40.
Being an enterprising young man he made the first deposit to the Bank of Coffey where he has been a loyal customer for the past 82 years. The bank and its good service will be missed by the community and by Mr. Knott.
