Bessie Lear, who lives at the Daviess County Care Center, turned 104 on Oct. 25. In honor of the birthday, her familyl presented her 104 roses. Bessie was born in 1895, the daughter of Annie and Jake Lovejoy. She married Albert Lear in June, 1926. He died in August, 1965.

They had three children: Ice Uthe and Wanda Lamma who both live in the area and Clarence who lives in Charlotte, N.C. Three sons died in infancy. Bessie workin a canning factoryy in Arkansas. She also cared for people in their homes until she was 91.

She lived in Pattonsburg for a time and later in Gallatin for 25 years. She credits her long life to “The Good Lord. I’ve live a nice clean life,” she says. “A Christian life. I leave it all up to Him.”
