Pattonsburg First Baptist

Sunday School attendance was 83. Happy birthday to Travis Lowrey, Jessica Hartley, Alvin Smith and Chester Hulett. Happy anniversary to Alvin and Michelle Smith. Cindy Barker had children’s church. The sermon was “God Supplies Our Needs” from Philippians 4:19.

Our special music was by the choir, “I Call to You,” under the direction of Debbie Nalle. Bro. Ron’s message was “Call Us Out, Call Us In” from Deuteronomy 6:23 and other scriptures. A vote of appreciation to Merlin and Dianne Bozarth for being our church treasurers the past 14 years.

North Ridge Bible study is at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. “Just Enjoy Some Unique Stuff” will be held at 5 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the new town business district. Our Christmas boxes need to be ready by Nov. 7 to be on their way.

Prayer concerns are for Pat Cronin, Agnes Van Meter, Minnie Conover, Vernice Bush, Ralph Salmon, Bernice Todd, Walter Mason, Garl Clark, Vera Peugh, Cody Ratliff and Sean Dinwiddie. Our sincere sympathy to the family of Oliver and Louise Smelcer and Jenelda Horner.

Altamont United Methodist

wenty-nine were present for worship services. Terry Read from Kirby, Texas, was a welcome guest. Candle lighters were Laura Youtsey and Amy Anthuis. Hymn of praise was “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling.” Children’s time was “God is Very Smart and Wise!”

The specials were by Velma Talbott and Bertie Stith. Scripture reading was from Deuteronomy 34, “Moses Sees the Land.” Pastor Marilyn’s message was “Games People Play.” Cody Walton gave his birthday offering.

Our sympathy to Edna Schoonover and family in the loss of her husband, Truman, a long-time member of our church and community. Jesse Toney and Andrea are the proud parents of a baby boy, Corbin Lee Toney, born Thursday, Oct. 21.

Holy Communion will be observed Sunday, Oct. 31. All are welcome.

Gallatin First Christian

Hosts were Bill and Karen Walker. Greeters were Herb Whitt and Chuck Culver. Elders for the day were Don Rains and Lois Carter. Candle lighters were Dillon Bird and Chris Barnes. Junior Stith gave the children’s moment. Barbara Wilson sang “Let Me Touch Him” for the special music. Pastor Ray’s sermon was “You Have Value.”

There was concern expressed for the family of Alva Heldenbrand who died on Saturday. Concern was also expressed for Kelly Joy and Mark Corwin’s father.

On Monday there will be a nominating committee meeting at 6:30 and the video Bible study continues at the Frys at 7. On Tuesday the Christian Women’s Fellowship will meet at the fellowship hall at 1:30. On Wednesday, grades 3-8 will begin practice for the Christmas program. They will meet at the church from 5:30-6:30. Also on Wednesday the outreach committee will meet at the fellowship hall at 7:30. Next Sunday we will meet at the church at 2 to go pick up the highway area our church has adopted.

Gallatin Presbyterian

Service began with the prelude, “I Know Who Holds Tomorrow,” by Eula Osborn, organist. Call to worship was “This is the Day the Lord has Made, Let Us Rejoice in it.” The opening song was “I Surrender All.” The children’s service by Dr. Allen was “Listening for God.” The message was “Giving Our Lord Priority” based on Luke 10:38-42. Next Sunday Dr. Allen’s message will be “Why I Believe.” You are invited to attend.

Gallatin First Baptist

Bro. Allen began the service by reading Hebrews 12:2. The ministry of praise was “Show Me the Cross” by Mike Henderson. In keeping with Pastor Appreciation Month, the active deacons and Stan Ray, deacon chairman, spoke words of appreciation and had a special time of prayer around Bro. Allen and Alice.

The morning message, “Let’s Tell the Truth About Tolerance,” given by Bro. Allen was taken from Ezekiel 33:6 and Hebrew 13:17. Sunday evening during Family Worship Time, Stan Ray sang “What a Wonderful Savior.” Bro. Allen spoke from Hebrews 13 and Ephesians 4:11 on “The Role of a Pastor.”

Missouri Baptist Convention was held this week at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty. Several from our congregation attended. “Judgment House” is at First Baptist Church in Trenton Thursday through Sunday. There will be no evening service here Sunday evening.

There will be transportation available for all who want to attend.

A card order will be mailed soon. The folders are available in the church library. Bro. Allen will soon begin a Sunday evening series of teaching messages on various critical Bible truths: abortion, gambling, sex, tolerance and homosexuality.

Olive Baptist

Worship attendance was 45. Mattison Ishmael gave her first birthday offering. Special music was brought by Klaudia Elrod singing “Unworthy,” accompanied by Mary Tague. Bro. Elrod’s message was “Every Which Way” from Mark 9:33-37. Tyler Critten was baptized during worship service.

We will have a hay ride Sunday evening at 7 p.m. for everyone young and old. Bible question of the week: Who was the first shepherd? See Genesis 4:2. Answer to last week’s question: John, Revelation 11:1-2.

Pattonsburg UMC Charge

Valerie’s sermon was “The Second Sin” from Genesis 3:1-15. We have enjoyed the fellowship with Valerie’s parents, Jim and Fran Heller from South Carolina. We appreciate everyone who helped make our first Harvest Sale such a success. Don’t forget to join the Heath Church on Oct. 30 for their Harvest Sale. Remember in prayer Vernice Bush, Lee Macrander, Shawn Dinwiddie, Bernice Todd and the family of Oliver Smelcer.

Pattosnburg Christian

Opening thought: “Prayer is the link that connects with God.” Dr. Ben Awbrey’s sermon was “Thanking God in All Circumstances” from Philippians 1:3. Plans were finalized for the wiener roast and hay ride to be held at Greg and Lisa Teel’s at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 30. In case of inclement weather, the wiener roast will be held in the church.

Birthday greetings to David Warford. Please remember in prayer Alice Bell, Ralph Salmon, Agnes Van Meter, David Warford, Bob Sweiger and Walter Mason. Our sympathy is extended to the family of Oliver and Louise Smelcer. We welcomed visitors Rev. and Mrs. Maurice McNeely and Ryan.

Fairview Community Church

Mary Frazier opened the morning service leading hymns while John Stith read from Romans 5:1- 8, prayer following. Sunday School concluded at Judges 18:18, “A Hired Priest Will Travel.” The message was “Sin” from Galatians 5:16-21.

The evening topic was “Balance” from Matthew 22:34-40. Prayer requests are for Gene and Ellen Burnam, George and Belle McFee, Merlin Wright, Bob Edwards, Walter Mason, Carol Testerman, Norma Gault, Ronnie Hiley, Joyce Becerra and Richard and Dianne DeJong.

Lake Viking Church

Ruth Bailey gave the opening prayer and devotions for the Wednesday ladies Bible study. The lesson was “Deceived” from Joshua 9, led by Ruth, who also closed in prayer. Wednesday evening Bible study was led by Roger Lankford on “The Beginning of the World” from Proverbs 31 and Genesis 1.

Prayer requests are for Bro. Alvin and Inez Hillman, Joyce Moran, Gayla Satterwhite, Orville Hillman, Sheryl Jacobs, Ned Snyder, Ernie and Joan Pelon, Lee Deskin, Joe and Lucy Gray and Mary Cutting.

The prelude by Cynthia Hillman, organ, and Buddy Myers, violin, was “To God Be the Glory.” Call to worship was by Rev. Hillman. Invocation was by Marvin Teel.

The choir sang “The Closer I Get to Heaven,” directed by Karla Worthington. Offertory prayer was by Henry Ford. Rev. Hillman’s youth message was “Remember All Things Come From the Lord First.” Ministry of music was by Susan MacEachern, “Redeemed.” Susan also played the autoharp.

Scripture by Rev. Hillman was from I Thessalonians 4-5 and his message was part one of “Expect the Rapture.” The benediction was given by Rev. Hillman. The postlude was “He is Lord” by Cynthia and Buddy. It was good to see Ray and Helen McMillin with us this morning.

Gallatin United Methodist

Oct. 24 was “Building Fund Sunday.” Pianist was Abbey Wilson. Candlelighters were Courtney Houghton and Andrew Pierce. The Scripture lesson was from 2 Chronicles 16. Pastor David Fitzmaurice’s message was “Asa: Portrait of a Backslider.”

Nov. 6, 2 p.m. – Memorial service for former member Thelma Gatenby at the Gallatin UMC. The family requests no flowers: if you would like to share, please give donations to the church instead. Nov. 14 – “Sons of the Carpenters” will sing.

Congratulations to Jay and Leanne Cragg. Happy anniversary to John and Harriet Leopard. Prayer concerns: Lavona Hensley and Wilbur Sullenger.

Jameson First Baptist

Rev. Jean Osborn’s morning message was “From a Burning Bush to a Holy Ground” from Exodus 3:1-6. Missionary birthdays were given by Amanda Bohannon. Offering bearers were Joe Smith and Travis Bohannon. Special music was by Mike and Carolyn Toney, “There’s Beauty in the Valley if You Know” and “Wings Like a Dove.” A carry-in dinner was held for Friends Day. Rev. Osborn’s evening message was “Making Lifetime Decisions” from Daniel 1:8.

Prayer needs: James Osborn, Colman Franks, Howard Bailey, Harry Rice, Jean Osborn, LaVerne Drummond, Virginia Dryer, Ramona Dutro, Elsie Hall, Betty Barlow, Rosemary Bear and Chrystall Mosseau. Our church held services at Daviess County Care Center Sunday. Remember Judgment House at Trenton First Baptist Oct. 28-31.

First Assembly of God

Sunday morning we sang “We Have the Power.” God blessed our church with a new sidewalk in front. Friday and Saturday was the rummage sale in the church basement. The WM’s worked hard and it paid off. Over $190 dollars was made.

Prayer requests Sunday were for Mike and Carolyn Toney, Andrew and Tessa Lollar, Rebecca Hutsell’s sister, Louise Curtis, Maxine Clark, and J.L. and Ina McFee’s granddaughter. Girls collected $17.22 and boys collected $10.78 for the penny march for missionaries.

Brother Bennett’s message was from Mark 10: 23-31 about laying up treasures in heaven. Sunday evening’s message was “Food for Thought” from Hebrews 5:11-14. Next Sunday evening is our sing and share. Halloween treats will be available for the children.
