The ag building construction project was a major point of discussion at the recent regular meeting of the Pattonsburg R-2 school board.
Several representatives from Uthe Construction were present at the Oct. 11 regular meeting of the Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education to discuss the insurance situation regarding labor on the new ag building. Salary for completion of the new ag building was also discussed. Uthe Construction gave Superintendent Gene Walker a bid for the remaining construction on the outside of the ag building shell. Mr. Walker contacted board members after receiving the bid.
In other business at Monday’s meeting, Mr. Walker reported to the board that the cost of painting “The Panther Dome” with two panther paws on one side of the dome will be between $1,200 and $1,500. A motion was accepted to hire the painter that Greg and Lisa Teel contacted to paint the east side of the dome as well.
Sally Sparks presented the board with a proposed K-12 math curriculum, which the board approved.
COOP expenditures were reviewed and approved.
The vacation leave policy was amended to read “Sick leave time accumulates from year to year, but vacation time is a ‘use it or lose it’ situation during the contract year.”
A resignation from Darrell Crabtree from the custodial position was accepted.
A resume from Alan McCrary was reviewed by the board. Mr. McCrary was offered a contract for the position of high school math teacher to begin in December of this year.
Mrs. Brown gave her elementary principal’s report. Parent/Teacher conferences were Oct. 28. The Halloween/alternative parties were Oct. 29. Mrs. Brown gave a report on MAP testing.
Mr. DeShon gave his high school principal’s report. The FFA hog roast was a success despite the bad weather. The school received all the money back from the reserved rooms for FFA State Convention.
The band marched at Maryville on Oct. 16, and at St. Joseph on Oct. 23. Barn Warming was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 16.
The board went into executive session at 9:15.
After returning to regular session, a motion was accepted to offer Harold Stitt a contract for the position of custodian at a salary of $18,000 per year and also bus driver contingent upon certification and proper license. The salary will be adjusted because of his late start in the school year.
