Senior Allison Spidle will represent Gallatin High School at next week’s MSHSAA State Golf Meet to be held at Sedalia Country Club. Spidle finished in a tie for 10th place at last week’s District 14 competition held at Chillicothe.
Spidle’s 18-hole round of 95 topped all GHS golfers. Mackenzie Riley shot a 110, followed closely by Kari Dickinson’s 111. Kara Sullenger added a 126 and Jamie Burnett shot 134 in state qualifying competition.
Gallatin’s 6th place team finish (442) was the best of any school comparable in size. Richmond (367) won the district team title thanks to a 1-2 finish by its top golfers. Trenton placed 2nd with a 384 team score, followed by Liberty (389), Chillicothe (391) and Cameron (402).
The state competition will take place next Monday and Tuesday. Competition is fierce due to the fact that, unlike boys golf, all schools are lumped into one class regardless of size.
Gallatin’s junior varsity golfers came away with a 2nd place team finish from last Wednesday’s Grand River Conference jayvee meet held in Albany. Jamie Lunsford shot a 60 in the 9-hole competition to claim the medalist honor. Erin Sweatman’s 62 was good enough to tie her for 2nd place. Other GHS jayvee scores included Roxanne Hostetler 73, Lauren Henderson 75 and Rebecca Stith 76.
Albany captured the junior varsity title with a team score of 258. Gallatin’s 270 score was well ahead of Hamilton and King City, each of which shot 321.
