*Texas Governor George W. Bush, who says he is a “compassionate conservative,” has disagreed with his GOP friends so often he’s now known as the “cowboy contrarian.”

*Vice President Al Gore is moving his election headquarters to Nashville, attempting to substitute some good old country music for his sad campaign swan songs.

*Critics generally believe this season’s TV sitcoms are better than last year’s, although they detect a close similarity in the canned laughter.

*Now that one company will soon dominate one-third of the nation’s local phone business, Webster’s newest dictionary will have to redefine the word “deregulation.”

*The U.S. Department of State has listed the nations, including China, that are intolerant of religion. They seem to have overlooked the governor’s office in Minnesota.
