Pattonsburg First Baptist
Sunday School attendance was 65. Happy birthday to Belinda Cameron. Many enjoyed the trail ride and poetry gathering on Oct. 2. Leroy Watts, Monett, shared several poems with us during our worship service. Wanda Cocoran, Claremore, sang several cowboy songs with guitar accompaniment.
Bro. Ron’s message was “Clear Call of Jesus,” from Mark I, Jeremiah and Psalms 37. Carry-in supper is at 6 p.m. on Oct. 6 at the parsonage for Women of Faith. All women are invited. Prayer needs: Bro. Ron is in Revival at Winston, Jack Bowman, Gilbert Bird, Vera Peugh, Ralph Salmon, Garl Clark, Minnie Conover, Pat Cronin, Marvin Thatcher, Donna Garrison, Walter Mason, Sean Dinwiddie, Lee Macrander, Vernice Bush and Cody Ratliff.
Olive Baptist
Attendance for worship was 43. Deby Gann’s children’s sermon was “Singing Praises to God.” The children sang “Jesus Loves Me.” Mary Tague sang “Come Morning” for special music. Bro. Elrod’s message was “Seeing Trees, Then Seeing Clearly” from Mark 8:22-26.
Bible question of the week: What did the trees try to anoint as king? Answer to last week’s question, What is the longest verse in the Bible? Esther 8:9. A baby shower was held for Jacob Hullinger Sunday afternoon.
Gallatin United Methodist
Pianist was Bill Hendrix. Candle lighters were Michelle Monteith and Garett Houghton. Special music was by the Sweet Adelines. Children’s moments was “We Need to Love Each Other.”
Scripture was from Romans 12:9-21. Pastor David Fitzmaurice’s message was “Making Life Work: Foundational Matters.”
The Men’s Group needs volunteers for parsonage repairs. There was a Nomination Committee meeting Oct. 4. District Council Meeting is at 3 p.m. Oct. 10 at Chillicothe. Men’s group meeting is at 7 a.m. on Oct. 9. The children and youth hayride and wiener roast is at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 13 at Jerry Stewart’s. Charge conference meeting is at Gallatin UMC for all churches at 7 p.m. on Oct. 16.
The Jamesport church will have a revival Oct. 24-30. The UMW rummage sale raised $973. Happy anniversary to Kenny and Kay Kordes and Virgil and Betty Peters. Prayer concerns are for Debbie Steel, the Tate family, Jewel Holt’s dad, and for L. B. Davis’ dad.

Hosts were Larry and Cindy Barnes. Greeters were Herb Whitt and Chuck Culver. Elders for the day were William Steward and Junior Stith. Sue Bird gave the children’s moment. This was World Communion Sunday, the day that many churches around the world celebrate communion as a sign of our unity in Christ.
There was concern expressed for Virgil Taul, who is in the hospital; Betty Trimm, who will be in the hospital; Bill Nelson, who lost his grandmother; and Carol Tolen, who lost a niece.
Oak Ridge Christian
Bro. Johnson’s sermon was taken from Acts 17:15 on “Disturbances of Our Society.” We extend sympathy to the family of Mr. Kersey of Albany who was an uncle of Carl Crone. Birthday offerings were given by Maxine Morris and Gertrude Kampman. Prayers were for Garl Clark. Our Harvest Sale will be Saturday, Oct. 16, following a turkey and ham dinner. Donations for lunch.
Gallatin Presbyterian
Laverne Jacobs played the call to worship, “Jesus, the Very Thought of You.” The opening hymn was “I Gave My Life for Thee” followed by “Good Habits,” the children’s sermon. Rev. Allen’s message, “God’s Will for Church Growth,” was from Jeremiah and II Corinthians. A session meeting is planned for 7 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Rev. Allen’s home, 602 W. Mill St. We are happy that Myrl Langford has recovered and is back with us again.
Fairview Community
Betty McFee opened the morning’s services leading hymns and prayer. Vern Bridgman read the scripture from Psalms 14 and followed with prayer. Sunday School concluded at Judges 13:25. The message was part three of “Jesus Christ, God’s Son,” from I Peter 3:13-16. The evening’s theme was “Sharing,” from Matthew 25:31-46.
Prayer requests are for Nina Pittsenbarger, Alva and Hazel and Patty Heldenbrand, Walter Mason, Gene and Ellen Burnam, Marvin Garrison, Bob and Reuben Heldenbrand, Norma Galt, Beth Young, Dallas Shuck and Merlin Wright.
Gallatin First Baptist
Morning revival worship began with the adult choir singing “You Are My All In All.” Kent Evans, the musical evangelist, sang “Oh, I Want to Know You More” as ministry of praise. Evangelist Bob Payne brought the morning message, “Do You Know Jesus?” from I Corinthians 1:17-18.
The adult choir opened the evening service by singing “He Took My Sins Away.” Kent Evans sang “My House is Full” and Bob Payne spoke from Ephesians 3:14-19 on “The Love of Jesus.”
The revival meetings will continue through Thursday evening. There will be no Men’s Prayer Breakfast this Saturday. The Keenager’s Fall Foliage Tour to Weston is Oct. 12.
Altamont United Methodist
Sixteen were present for Sunday School. We were happy to have Melanie Brumgardt and Betty Huffman with us again. Bertie Stith read the devotional from “Chicken Soup for the Soul.” The adult lesson was “Our Guiding Light” from Exodus 40. The High School Class studied “Yea or Nay,” different life-style choices.
Prayer concerns were for Barbara (Youtsey) Jones and Betty (Parker) Heyser. Carolyn Youtsey, Esther Morrison and Betty Huffman gave their birthday offerings. Annual board meeting is Sunday, Oct. 10, after Sunday School. Our church will provide services at Daviess County Care Center at 2 p.m.
Lake Viking
Wednesday morning ladies Bible study was opened with prayer and devotions by Ina Reznor. The lesson was part two of “Claiming God’s Victories,” from Joshua 6, led by Betty Cooksey. Betty closed in prayer.
Prayer requests are for Bro. Alvin and Inez Hillman, Lou Davis, Mary Cutting, Jennifer Hogan, Buddy and JoAnn Myers, Joyce Moran, Orville Hillman, Sheryl Jacobs, Joan Pelon, Everett Russell and Ned Snyder.
Prelude by Cynthia Hillman, piano, and Buddy Myers, violin, was “In My Heart There Rings a Melody.” Invocation was given by Ruth Bailey. Call to worship was given by George Jacobs. Ministry of music was a vocal solo by George Jacobs, “Another Soldier’s Coming Home.”
Rev. Hillman’s message was “The Real Thing” based on Matthew 7. Communion was served and Rev. Hillman gave the benediction. Happy anniversary was sung to Fred and Helen Burns and we wish Helen McMillin a happy birthday.
Opening thought: “A Cheerful Heart is Good Medicine,” from Proverbs 17:22. Dr. Ben Awbrey’s sermon was “God is Our Fortress in Life,” from James 5. Birthday congratulations to Mary Ellen Green, Carolyn Meek, Lisa West and Jim Snider who celebrated his 90th. Helen Woodward filled in as church pianist.
