The 1999-2000 journalism staff at Gallatin High School is sponsoring a “Teacher of the Month” and two “Student of the Month” awards. One teacher, one junior high student, and one high school student will be selected each month.
Garret Houghton is the Gallatin Junior High Student of the Month for October. Garret is involved in football, basketball, and youth group. He is the son of Greg and Linda Houghton of Gallatin.
The Gallatin High School October Student of the Month is Trent Dowell. Trent is involved in FFA, FBLA, Art Club, National Honor Society, Student Council, and is vice-president of the senior class. Trent’s plans after graduation include attending college and majoring in law enforcement or agricultural business. He is the son of J.D. Dowell and Judi Dowell, both of Gallatin.
The October Teacher of the Month is Dennis Steigerwalt. Dennis taught for ten years in Iowa before moving to Gallatin, where he has taught for the past 14 years. He received his Fishery and Wildlife Biology degree form Iowa State University and says his favorite aspect of teaching is the students. He and his wife, Sharon, have two sons, Aaron and Eric. Congratulations to Garret, Trent, and Dennis!
