The Gallatin School District has received $12,600 to promote the use of the Internet in area schools as part of a federal initiative to expand the use of new technologies within classrooms and libraries.
“The Internet has exploded in recent years as an effective learning tool for our children. I’m pleased that this funding will help in ensuring that the children of Missouri have the opportunity to begin using this resource to prepare them for the 21st Century,” Danner said.
The funding is provided to assist schools and libraries in paying for Internet access and other forms of telecommunications services and is administered by the Schools and Libraries Division (SLD) of the Universal Service Administrative Company. This a non-profit organization which falls under the direction of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The SLD has indicated that they will continue to announce awards throughout the end of the year.
The grant award was announced by Congresswoman Pat Danner (D-Kansas City) who noted, “The Internet has exploded in recent years as an effective learning tool for our children. I’m pleased that this funding will help in ensuring that the children of Missouri have the opportunity to begin using this resource to prepare them for the 21st Century.”
