Gallatin R-5 biology and ag classes, under the supervision of Mr. Steigerwalt and Mr. Croy, took a field trip to Wallace State Park near Cameron from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sept. 22, 1999. While at the park, the students identified and collected leaves from several trees to use in their leaf collections for both classes.
The students also spent time collecting insects around the park for their insect collections to be used in both classes in order to understand the classification system, use identification keys, and become familiar with nature. In addition, ag students will use the studies as practice for competitions later in the year.
Mr. Steigerwalt was contacted by park officials later and informed the public is not allowed to remove materials from the park, although a naturalist is available to provide a tour. Next year, the group will try to arrange a trip to a local, privately owned area.
Biology and ag students attending the field trip were Michelle Anthuis, Anna Barton, Phillip Berry, Kim Clevenger, Christina Cox, Kari Dickinson, Brice Garnett, Wes Gay, Mariah Gibson, Jacob Humphrey, Justin Kerns, Janell Lee, Billie Maddock, Mackenzie Riley, Matt Rogers, Jennifer Sharp, Lora Smith, Erika Steger, Genny Stephens, Austin Story, Erin Sweatman, Ryan Thompson, Jo Ann Tummons, Scott Wilkinson. Ag students attending were Brant Conover, Trian Kristianson, Meghen Davenport, Rick Hendricks, Robert Mazur, Blake Parker, Zack Strange, Adam Whitney and Brian Youtsey.
