SRA Angel Dawn Reed has been deployed by the Air Force to Egypt for a three-month stay, from late August to late November. Ms. Reed has been stationed in South Carolina at Shaw Air Force Base. She is one of nine airmen to make the trip to Egypt. En route the group had stopovers in South Dakota, where they visited Mount Rushmore, and Ireland.

The airmen are sleeping on cots in tents at their base in Egypt, with a mess hall and PX nearby. They work twelve-hour shifts. For security reasons, the airmen dress casually whenever they are in the civilian population. The pyramids are in sight of their desert headquarters and SRA Reed hopes to be able to visit the pyramids during her stay.

SRA Reed reenlisted in the Air Force. She spent a year in Korea during her first sign-on. She is the daughter of Sharon and Schuyler Appley of Gallatin and granddaughter of Rachel Hiley of Winston.
