North Daviess R-3 Superintendent Julie Kirby announced that an open house for the ITV room would be held Sept. 20. The South Harrison ITV was on line so the school could demonstrate how the system works live.

In other business during the regular Board of Education meeting held Sept. 13 at the high school, the following extra duty contracts were offered:

Annette Bartz for junior high boys basketball at $400 and high school boys basketball at $1,050;

Alan Koch for junior high girls basketball at $400, high school boys basketball at $1,050, girls high school basketball at $1,050, boys softball at $440, girls softball at $440, and boys and girls track at $1,050; Becci Roberts for junior high cheerleading at $75 and junior class sponsors at $100; Linda Phipps for senior class sponsor at $150 and high school cheerleading at $400.

During citizen communication, Mrs. Hancs, FACS teacher, presented information about the current course offerings and participation in the department’s courses.

Ms. Fisher presented a request to purchase a new radial arms saw for the ag shop and the board allowed for the purchase up to $650. Plans for the national FFA convention in Louisville, Ky., were discussed Four students will be competitively chosen to attend the convention.

Superintendent Kirby reported board training would be unnecessary for a member returning to a board position if he/she had served previous to the statutory requirement for board member training.

A late offer was received for the metal cutting band saw of $20 from Bill Lewis. The board agreed to sell the saw to Mr. Lewis since no other bid had been received.

During new business, bus routes were approved as presented.

A motion carried to apply for technology grants as presented by Ms. Kirby.

During administrative reports, Elementary Principal Rolinda Ford presented a report on activities honoring grandparents. Enrollment stands at 67, preschool 6.

High School Principal Todd Willhite reported enrollment of 57 in grades 7-12. North Daviess is hosting the softball district tournament in October. Nine students have been placed on academic probation and are receiving tutoring. Grades will be checked again on Friday. The girls softball team has advanced in the conference tournament.

Mr. Willhite and Ms Kirby reported on the Spring 1999 MAP test scores.

Invitations to Commissioner Bartman’s regional education conference were presented to the board members. This year’s conference will be held in Maryville on Oct. 12.

The financial statement was reported by Pat Heaps. It was the consensus of the board not to read bills aloud. Bills were approved for payment as presented.

The board went into executive session to discuss a matter of student discipline.

After returning to open session, the board ratified a contract for tuition and transportation for special needs students to attend the Chillicothe Youth Center.

The next school board meeting was set for 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11, in the high school conference room.
