A hypnotist and country music will be main features of this year’s Chautauqua in Gallatin. The event is scheduled Sept. 17-19 on the town square.

Plans for the 1999 Daviess County Chautauqua, Sept. 17-18-19 on the Gallatin square, are well underway. Several new events dot the schedule for this year.

Friday’s entertainment begins with gospel music at 6 p.m., followed by a hypnosis show, and music by Cheap Guitars. The hypnosis show, appearing for the first time on the Chautauqua schedule, features hypnotist Travis McGill, who will transform members of the audience into the “stars” of the show.

Activities on Saturday begin at 9 a.m. with the annual baby show and a sidewalk art activity for youth on the courthouse lawn. Other events include the senior center auction, gospel clown and donkey, Sweet Adelines, a talent show, Gallatin Theatre League shows, gospel music by the Sons of the Carpenter, ragtime music by the TurpinTyme Ragsters (back for the second consecutive year), a fire department barrel fight, and the evening parade.

Ongoing activities Saturday include a quilt show, art exhibition and tours at the rotary jail.

Featured entertainment on Saturday night begins at 6 p.m. with the dedication of the brand new portable stage, followed by The Girlfriends. At 7:30 p.m., the featured entertainment by Cheyenne will begin. Cheyenne is a six-piece country show band who has shared the stage with the likes of The Oak Ridge Boys.

Sunday’s activities include the annual flea market, held rain or shine, the fire department pancake breakfast, a volleyball tournament, tours of the rotary jail, and two Gallatin Theatre League shows.
