Drop in valuation lifts the tax rate for the year at the North Daviess School District. The board of education conducted the annual tax rate. hearing earlier this month land approved the levy, to be set at $5.45, the highest amount approved by voters.

North Daviess R-3 held its Tax Rate Hearing during the regular meeting of the Board of Education held Aug. 9, 1999, at the high school. Superintendent Julie Kirby reported that a drop in valuation would result in a loss of $10,702 over the projections in 1998.

The tax rate to be levied is $5.45, the highest amount approved by the voters. (The tax levy ceiling approved by the state auditor is $5.62).

Superintendent Kirby presented the following concerning the district’s assessed evaluation and proposed levy:

Bills were paid as presented with the exception of the amount due to the Pattonsburg Medical Clinic. There appeared to be a double charge. The board agreed to allow payment of the bill if it does prove to be accurate.

A contract was offered to Carrie Fisher as agriculture teacher for 1999-2000 as per salary schedule with additional compensation for half time employment during the summer.

A contract was offered to Dorothy Hanes as half time FACS teacher for 1999-2000 as per salary schedule.

Bids were read from John Hightree and Jim Cook for surplus property.

The Craftsman Table Saw was sold for $50 and the Craftsman Radial Arm Saw (which doesn’t work) for $20 to Jim Cook.

The Rockwell Radial Arm Saw was sold to John Hightree for $100.

The board took a tour of the high school to see the repairs made this summer.

The Ethics Policy was adopted as presented.

Ms. Kirby reported on the requirement for mandatory board member training.

It was the consensus of the board to renew membership with the Missouri Association for Rural Education.

Elementary Principal Rolinda Ford presented a list of improvements being made to the grounds at the elementary. There will be one new student, a sixth grader. Enrollment stands at 66 in elementary and six in preschool.

High School Principal Todd Willhite reported enrollment of 55 expected in grades 7-12. North Daviess will offer its facility for the softball district tournament.

Ms. Kirby reported on the upcoming bus inspection and the need for an air compressor.

Board members present at the Aug. 9 regular meeting of the North Daviess R-3 School District were David Iddings, Donald Baker, Bob Griffin and Debbie Ray. Board members absent were Rhonda Sweet, Beverly Hunter and Chris Nelson. Also present were Superintendent Julie Kirby, acting board secretary Pat Heaps, Rolinda Ford and Todd Willhite. Beverly Hunter assumed the duties of secretary at 7:20 p.m. Rhonda Sweet arrived at 7:52 p.m.

The next regular meeting was set for 7 p.m. on Sept. 13, 1999, at the high school building in Jameson.
