New teachers on staff at the North Daviess and Winston schools are intrroduced.
North Daviess
The new school year for students at Winston R-2 and North Daviess R-3 started Aug. 18.
Todd Willhite will begin the 1999 school year as North Daviess High School principal. Mr. Willhite is a native of Kansas City and a graduate of South Harrison High School. He received his B.A. in math at William Jewell College and his masters in education from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. He student taught at Kearney. Mr. Willhite taught math for six years at South Harrison. He and his wife, Julie, have two children, Sarah, 3, and Michael, 1.
Rolinda Ford will be teaching second grade and also serve as elementary principal. Mrs. Ford was born in Harrison County and graduated from South Harrison High School. She received her B.A. in elementary education and masters in school administration from the University of Missouri- Kansas City and Benedictine College. She student taught in Kansas City. Mrs. Ford has six years teaching experience and three years of administrative experience. She has one daughter, Rochelle Bingham, 13.
Carrie Fisher, a native of Emmetsburg, Iowa, will be teaching agricultural education. Ms. Fisher graduated from West Bend Mallard High School in West Bend, Iowa. She received her degree in agriculture education from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. She student taught at Norborne. A first year teacher, Ms. Fisher is single.
Dorothy Hanes will be teaching family and consumer science. A native of Trenton, Mrs. Hanes, graduated from Trenton High School. She received her degree in vocational home economics from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. She student taught at Laffetty High School in St. Joseph. Mrs. Hanes taught for seven years at Jefferson High School and 20 years at Adams Middle School, Trenton R-9. She has one daughter, Jenny, who lives at home, three grown children, and three grandchildren.
Vonda Nelson, a native of Bethany, will be teaching preschool and third grade. Mrs. Nelson graduated form North Harrison High School. She received a degree in physical education/health and elementary education from Graceland College. She student taught at South Harrison. A first year teacher, Mrs. Nelson and her husband, David, have three children, Donovan 25, Dava, 23 and Dalton, 3.
North Daviess R-3 also has two new members in the support staff. Becky Morris will be elementary secretary. Mrs. Morris is a native of Kansas City. A graduate of Trenton High School, Mrs. Morris received a degree in accounting from North Central Missouri College in Trenton. She previously worked at the Bank of Gallatin. Mrs. Morris and her husband, Gene, have four children, Beth, 12, Cody, 10, Sarah 7, and Anna 4.
Henry Rhoades will be North Daviess custodian and bus driver. Mr. Rhoades was born in Cameron and graduated from North Daviess High School. He and his wife, Belinda, have four children Their eldest, son Ray, is married; daughter Stacey graduated from North Daviess last year; Rachel is a senior; and Annie is a freshman at North Daviess.
WINSTON
Steve Bennett will begin the 1999 school year at Winston R-6 as the language arts teacher. Mr. Bennett, a native of Atchison, Kan., graduated from high school at St. Joseph Central. He received his education degree in secondary English from Northwest Missouri State University- Maryville. Mr. Bennett student taught at St. Joseph Central. Of his and his wife Karen’s three sons, Preston is 11, Beau is 4, and Tyson is deceased.
Kathy Henderson, a native of Plattsburg, will be teaching seventh and eighth grade English and Spanish I and II via satellite. Mrs. Henderson graduated from Jameson High School and received her B.S. in education from NWMSU-Maryville. Mrs. Henderson student taught at Gallatin and then taught kindergarten for five years at Covel D. Searcy Elementary in Gallatin. She had substitute taught at Gallatin for the past three years. A Gallatin resident, she and her husband, Jeff, have three children, Lauren, 14, Taylor, 11, and Logan, 6.
Elizabeth McClure will be teaching kindergarten. Born in Kirksville, Ms. McClure graduated from Hickman High School in Columbia. She received her degree in early childhood from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Ms. McClure student taught at Winston. She is single.
Special education for 7-12 grades will be taught by Lora York. Ms. York was born in Milan and graduated from high school in Trenton. She received her degree in elementary education and special education form NWMSU-Maryville. Ms. York student taught at Albany and Bethany. She previously taught special education at North Daviess. Ms. York has three children, Keri Miller, 25, Bill York, 18, and Kris York, 13.
Jennifer Carnicom will teach world history, American history, western civilization, Spanish, health and current events. Ms. Carnicom was born in Detroit, Mich. She graduated from Oak Park High School in Kansas City and received her degree in history and secondary education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She student taught at Winnetonka High School in Kansas City. Ms. Carnicom is single.
Learning disabilities teacher will be Mary Jo Burger. Ms. Burger was born in Kansas City. She graduated from high school in St. Joseph. Ms. Burger received her M.S. in special education from NWMSU-Maryville. Ms. Burger previously taught at Brookfield and New York. She is single.
Peggy Smith will serve as coordinating teacher in kindergarten. Mrs. Smith was born in Clark. She graduated from high school at Breckenridge and received her B.S. in elementary education at Truman University in Kirksville. Mrs. Smith student taught at Jamesport, Gallatin and Trenton R- 6. She previously taught junior high science and social studies, fifth and sixth grades, and kindergarten. She and her husband, Robert, have two grown children, Vicki Lockridge and David Smith.
