The Elks Mobile Dental Unit is now in its 37th year of providing dental services to deserving residents of Missouri. The unit is scheduled to visit Cameron from Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, to Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, and will bee located at Cameron Elks Lodge, 9018 NE Hwy. 69.

The Elks Mobile Dental Unit has been operated by the Dental Department of Truman Medical Center-East of Kansas City since 1962 in partnership with the State of Missouri and the Missouri Elks Benevolent Association.

The purpose of the program is to bring primary care dental services to the handicapped and crippled children as well as mentally retarded/developmentally disabled children and adults throughout the State of Missouri. Over 100 residents have been served since 1962.

This special unit is a self-propelled bus-like vehicle equipped to provide a full range of dental services, such as X-rays, fillings, extractions, cleaning and other treatments. All services are provided at no cost to eligible patients. The unit is staffed by a thoroughly trained dentist and dental assistant.

Individuals are eligible for free dental care while the Unit is in Cameron who live in the counties of Mercer, Daviess, Gentry, Clinton, Harrison, Worth, Sullivan, Caldwell, DeKalb, Livingston and Grundy, and are referred by the Bureau of Special Health Care Needs (M.C.C.S.) or a Regional Center for the Developmentally Disabled.
