Pattonsburg Christian

Opening thought: “By being faithful in worship, we follow directly in the steps of Jesus.” Dr. Ben Awbrey’s sermon was “Sinning Against the Goodness of God,” from James 4:13-17. Happy birthday to Randy Teel and congratulations to Daphna and Paul Jr. Cummings, who celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary.

Winston First Baptist

Greetings to all in the name of the Lord. This weather is perfect to study about the Lord and worship Him.

Myra and Bro. John did a skit about Vacation Bible School, Mt. Extreme,

which goes from Monday through Friday from 6:30-8:30. Marilyn Clark and Helen Norton sang a duet, “Let Others See Jesus In You.” They were accompanied by Mary Ellen Barker on the organ. Bro. John then brought the message from Acts 1:9-12 entitled, “The Return of a King.”

On Sunday afternoon, we went to the Daviess County Care Center and held

worship services. Mary Ellen, Russell, Jean, Myra, Ica, and Wanda were

there along with Bro. John to lead in worship. It was a great song service and Bro. John shared from Matthew 24 concerning the coming of Jesus.

On Sunday evening, Bro. John shared once again concerning the truths of the coming of the Lord by explaining the difference between the Rapture and the Second Coming of Jesus.

Attendance for worship was 19. Mary Tague gave a birthday offering. Deby Gann gave the children’s sermon “God Wants Us to Get Along.” Bro. David Leeper preached from John 10:31-38.

Next Sunday Bro. Larry Elrod will be preaching and has requested the whole congregation be in the evening service for a special meeting. WMU will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Altamont United Methodist

Twenty-five were present for worship services. Andy Minnis and Samantha Mott were the bell ringers and candle lighters. Mission moment was “Vehicles Used to Transport Those Who Have Lost Their Limbs.”

The special was a piano solo by Andy Minnis “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee.” Pastor Marilyn’s children’s time was “Help Others Even When Others Criticize You!” Brian Youtsey and LaVern Allen were offering bearers. Trine Ahn Kristiansen of Helsinge, Denmark, was a welcome visitor.

The pastor’s message was from Matthew 14, “Peter Walks on Water.” Prayers were lifted to the Lord for Truman Schoonover, Julie Harrelson, Laura Youtsey, Dan Bridgeman, J.B. Harwood, Anita Malo, Walter and Rhonda Edwards traveling.

The annual homemade ice cream social with Gallatin will be held Aug. 22 at our church.

Gallatin First Baptist

Morning worship began with the adult choir singing “Holy, Holy.” Children’s message was “Protective Covering” by Bro. Allen and Miss Alice. Judy Vyrostek sang “He Washes My Eyes with Tears” as ministry of praise. “Are You in Goshen?” was Bro. Allen’s morning message from Genesis 45:5-11.

Sunday evening was Church in Conference. Kayce Corwin and Melissa Craig signed a song they had learned at Grand Oaks Camp as special music. A video was show as a preview of the study “Share Jesus Without Fear,” which we will be doing for the next four weeks on Sunday evenings.

Vacation Bible School is continuing every evening this week from 6:30 to 8:30. The theme is “Climb Mt. Extreme.” All children of the community are welcome. At 10:40 a.m. on Aug. 15 will be the commencement program for VBS during worship time. Immediately following will be a “picnic lunch” at the church in Fellowship Hall. Meat and drinks are furnished. Bring a dish that goes with a picnic lunch. Everyone is invited. The Keenagers luncheon has been canceled for this month because of VBS activities.

Lake Viking

Monday night Bible study by Roger Lankford was on Proverbs 22 and Hebrews 5. Roger closed in payer. Wednesday evening Bible study for the young adults was by Rev. Hillman. Prayer requests are for Joan Pelon, Orval Hillman, Guyla Cooper, George Jacobs, Gayla Satterwhite, Bandell Rorebeck, Jamie Hampton, Inez Hillman, Jennifer Hogan and Norma McCaulla.

Wednesday ladies Bible study was by Betty Cooksey on part two of “Dedicating the Tabernacle: Time for Praise and Reflection,” Exodus 40. Betty closed inprayer.

Prelude by Cynthia Hillman, organ, was “Heavenly Sunlight.” The call to worship and invocation was by Ruth Bailey. The choir sang “Show a Little Bit of Love and Kindness,” directed by Karla Worthington. Rev. Hillman’s youth message was on “Remember What God Has Given Us.” Offertory prayer was by Henry Ford. Ministry of music was by Susan MacEachern, “Arms of Love.” She also played the auto-harp. Rev. Hillman’s message was part one of “How Do You Love?” from I Corinthians 13. Communion was served and Rev. Hillman gave the benediction.

The postlude was “God is So Good” by Cynthia Hillman.” Happy birthday to Bro. Alvin and we wish Jeff Worthing a happy birthday. Happy anniversary to Buddy and JoAnn Myers and Bro. Joe and Pearl Palmer. Sunday evening dinner and singing was well attended.

Gallatin United Methodist

Pianist was Abby Wilson. Candle lighters were Melissa Everman and Lindsey Robertson. Hymn of praise was “Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus.” Children’s moment was on “Fisher’s of Man” by Kim Brammer.

Hymn of preparation was “Sweet Hour of Prayer.” The message was by Dale Arnold. Executive meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 11. Gallatin board meeting is at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 11. AM UM men’s meeting for all members is at 7 a.m. on Aug. 14.

UMW retreat at Dockery Park is at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 18. Happy anniversary to Jack and Lois Barton. Prayer concerns are for Carl Bradley and Betty Pierce’s nephew. Closing hymn was “Precious Name.”

Herb Whitt and Chuck Culver were greeters with Sue Bird and Ann Schweizer the organist and pianist. Call to worship was from Colossians 3. Vacation Bible School program was during the morning worship service. Theme for this year was “All Aboard the Joy Express.”

Elders for the day were William Steward and Junior Stith. Joys and concerns were for Mitzi Wiley’s brother-in-law, Galen Deardeuff and his son, Adam, in Liberty Hospital, and Marsha Grimes’ mother, Christen Altman. Marjorie Frost was in the hospital last week. Delma Rodgers remains in Liberty Hospital.

Sympathy was extended to the family of Jack Gibbens who died last week. Wedding congratulations to Joshua and Kellie Wilson. They were married Saturday evening in Independence. Happy birthday to Mittie Cole on Aug. 13 and Frances Daugherty Aug. 15. She is a resident of Daviess County Care Center. Frank and Carol Tolen had a fire at their apartment last week.

First Assembly of God

Sunday School lesson in the adult class was from Luke 4:16-19, Philippians 2:5-11, Hebrews 1:5-9, 13: 15-16. The lesson was “Exalt Christ.” Golden text was from Philippians 2:9. Opening worship song was led by Whitney Bennett, “The Joy of the Lord is My Strength.” Happy birthday to Charlie Minnis.

Prayer requests were for Glory and Clyde Lint’s son, Roberta Bennett, Mary Lou Bennett’s niece and sister, and for Danny Bridgeman who is in ICU in North Kansas City Hospital, and Mr. and Mrs. England.

In children’s church, the children learned how important prayer is and why we should talk to God each day. Brother Bennet’s message was about Samson from Judges 16:11-22. Sunday evening service was from I Corinthians 2:1-14 on “It Takes More than what Man Can Teach Us to Accomplish Things for God.”
