Funeral services for Father Clarence Ryan, who formerly served as pastor for the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church at Gallatin, were held Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lexington. Arrangements were by Walker-Madler Funeral Home, Lexington. Graveside services and burial were at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kansas City. Contributions may be made to the Clarence R. Ryan Memorial Fund.

Father Clarence Robert “Clancy” Ryan, 68, Lexington, died July 10, 1999, at his home.

Father Ryan was born in Kansas City. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1956 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Kansas City.

As assistant pastor he served at the Cathedral in Kansas City in 1956. He also served as assistant pastor at St. James, Liberty, St. Patrick, Maryville, St. James, St. Joseph, Cathedral, St. Joseph, and St. Peter, Kansas City, and administrator of St. James, Liberty, St. Aloysius, Maysville, and Chaplin at St. Joseph Hospital, Kansas City. He served as pastor for parishes at Our Lady of Lourdes, Harrisonville, and Immaculate Conception, Lexington, as well as Gallatin,from 1981 until his retirement in 1993. Father Ryan was also very active in the local Chapter of AA and the Migrant Worker Program in Lexington.

Father Ryan was preceded in death by one sister.

Survivors include one brother of Kansas City; one sister in California; and Opal Currier, housekeeper and caretaker since 1972.

Graveside services and burial for Litton Cavender were held Friday, July 9, 1999, at the Lock Springs Cemetery with arrangements by the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lock Springs Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe.

Litton Cavender, 77, Jamesport, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at a health-care center in Savannah.

Mr. Cavender was born in Lock Springs. He graduated from Central High School in Kansas City and the Central Business College. He lived in Lock Springs, Kansas City, St. Joseph and the state of Washington, before moving to Jamesport in 1981.

Mr. Cavender was a residential construction worker for many years.

Survivors include one daughter, Rosa Lee Botts, Vancouver, Wash.; other children; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Fannie Schroff were held Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at Roberson Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial was at Miriam Cemetery, Bethany. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice

Fannie B. Schroff, 88, Bethany, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at a Bethany hospital.

Mrs. Schroff, a homemaker, was born in Harrison County.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Bethany.

In 1930, she married Wilber Schroff. He died in 1981.

Mrs. Schroff was also preceded in death by a son, Billy Wayne; three brothers, Raymond, Wayne, and George Swartz; and a grandson, Dennis Bratcher.

Survivors include a daughter, Wilma Ross, Pattonsburg; a sister, Josie Taylor, Bethany; two brothers, Wilbur Swartz, Bethany, and Robert Swartz, Winston; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Artela Summa, a native of Pattonsburg, were held Monday, July 12, 1999, at Johnson Funeral Home in Maryville. Burial was at Green Ridge Cemetery in Gentry.

Artela Viola Summa, 81, died July 9, 1999, at a health-care center in Tarkio.

Mrs. Summa was born and spent her childhood in and around Pattonsburg. She lived there until 1942, when she moved with her husband to Hollister, Calif. They remained in California until returning to Gentry in 1955. In 1966, they moved to Ravenwood and lived on a farm. She moved into Ravenwood in 1978. She had been a resident of a health-care center in Tarkio since February, 1999.

Mrs. Summa was a member of the Christian Church and Golden Age Club, both of Ravenwood.

In 1935, she married Lionel George Summa at Pattonsburg. He died in 1978.

Mrs. Summa was also preceded in death by four brothers, Elda, Hobert, Pearly and Albert Lowery; a granddaughter, Sherry Lee Summa; and a great-grandson, Spencer (Duke) Summa.

Survivors include four sons, Gerald of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, Vern of Tarkio, Clyde of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Floyd of Rayville; two sisters, Clara Macrander of Gallatin, and Goldena Macrander of Altamont; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
