Leslie Rochell Mason of Pattonsburg has placed among the leaders at the American Junior Simmental Association (AJSA) North Central Regional Classic held June 9-12 in Janesville, Wisc.
In competition with more than 170 AJSA members from the states of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wisconsin, Mason captured 14th place in the Senior Division Overall competition. She ranked seventh in Livestock Judging, 13th in the Sire Summary Quiz, 16th in Public Speaking competition and finished 21st in the Showmanship competition.
The four-day program, planned and coordinated by the Wisconsin Simmental Association, included a wide range of cattle-related events and activities. Competition is designed to enhance the learning experience of the contestants through hands-on application, friendly competition and public recognition.
Four AJSA Regional Classics, held during the summer at wide-ranging locations, serve to prepare the junior membership for the AJSA National Classic, traditionally the grand finale of the activity year for the Association’s youth program. The 1999 AJSA National Classic XIX will be held on July 19-23 in Hutchinson, Kansas at the Kansas State Fairgrounds.
Headquartered in Bozeman, Montana, the American Simmental Association maintains the breed registries for the Simmental and Simbrah breeds of cattle. The organization has a membership of more than 6,000 adults and 4,000 juniors.
